I typically wait until February to do my bi-weekly updates on where Alabama stands in the metrics and standings, but why not start a little early?
As of January 17, this is where Alabama stands:

- Alabama ranks #17 in the KenPom rankings, which is used as a criteria for the NCAA Tournament. They also rank 17th in adjusted offensive efficiency and 20th and adjusted defensive efficiency.

- Alabama ranks 19th in the NET rankings with a 7-2 record in Q1&Q2 games and a 25th ranked SOS.

- TeamRankings gives Alabama a 100% chance to make the tournament. Their predicted record for Alabama is 20-7.

-Joe Lunardi has Alabama as a 5 seed in his bracket release before yesterday’s games.

It’s too early to be discussing seeding and everything, but considering the fun start to conference play I wanted to get a head start. Alabama can go .500 in conference play and still finish at 12-6 in conference, which would be a huge disappointment considering how easy the back half of the schedule is. Alabama has the quality wins and road wins to compete for a top 5/6 seed this season. They just have to continue playing how they have been against lesser competition down the stretch.

While all games matter, especially conference games, we have a number of big games coming up, in the next 3 weeks, that will determine our true ability and fate. We have LSU twice, at Missouri, and a Kentucky team that may, presently, be struggling, but is too talented, imop, to not become a much better team as the season progresses.

This was a nice write-up by Harper, and I enjoyed it, but, he is right, in that, it will really mean more by doing it after the first week of February. Let’s see where we are at after the February 6th game at Missouri. We should have a much better idea then of where we truly stand, but I cannot say I have not been enjoying this run.

I admit that after the WKU game I thought this was the same old Alabama. However, what they have done in SEC play, while surprising, isn't a matter of luck. They havn't "backdoored" any wins or caught anybody on an off night. They have overcome the tough games away from Coleman and have made inferior opponents look silly. More importantly they have been consistent which should bring a smile to everybody's face. That is what makes me believe they are for real. I don't expect them to finish undefeated in SEC play but this current team, which is 21st in pts scored and 24th in rebounds, won't lose many. As for tournament time I just want to be in soundly 2 weeks out and stay away from a 1 seed opening weekend.
