Baseball ⚾️ The Restricted Arc and Charging

I'd like to say that as a coach and fan I've never been a fan of the Restricted Area arc under the basket. Why, because it has become what I feared it would become when it happened. It's becoming an excuse for officials to not watch the positioning of the defender on drives to the hoop. It is now an automatic charge no matter if the player is in position or not as long as they are not in the restricted area. It is a "crutch" call now to bail out the officials.

I understand the reasoning for " opening up the game", but I think it is the wrong answer. Positioning is key to playing defense. What would be better in my opinion would be "3 second count" in the lane like the NBA. However, we have to depend on officials like Shows to be able to count that high! JMHO!😡

True. But it depends on the defender establishing position and not because they happen to be outside of the restricted area.
