Probably a not well received question, but what are a suspended player, his friend from out of town, a boyfriend of a now deceased female and a woman who just happens to be a mother doing on the strip at 2 in the morning? Yes, tragically a woman was shot and killed. and more so her son now grows up without a mother or a father.
Many others have said that things need to change in that area. I saw it years ago when people not associated with the University, or the game just played walking the Strip appearing to look for some action. The answer is the University, local merchants and Police need to join together to come up with some solutions to make this a safer area. Our Police officers cannot fix this by themselves, they need support from all concerned. RTR

as I understand, the Tuscaloosa PD already had plans to put a satellite location at or near the strip.

Do you think they should just shut the strip down? I think the UA owns some retail there. They should buy it all and shut down the bars. There is no way to keep it safe. The environment ultimately can damage the University.

TPD is already committing a plurality of there manpower to the strip. With the laws of the State permitting concealed carry, without permit or registration, allowing Bars to stay open until Two on Sunday morning, allowing Bars to stay open all night other days of the week, allowing anyone at any age to own and possess a weapon, even in cars, I guess you can say that in Alabama it is open season on Police Officers, students and the General Population. The next move is up to the legislature.

By the way Miles was not suspended, before the instance. He left the team in December for undisclosed personal reasons. And Coach shut him down in January for medical reasons, I believe connected with his ankle. He was just no longer on the team, not suspended.

You are right to inquire, why was a young man and woman from Centerpoint, I believe, on the strip at 1:40 a.m. in the morning, waiting parked with blinkers on, a while after the left the bar? Why did they suddenly decide to pull up behind Miller’s vehicle right as Miles and Davis were being picked up? Why was Johnson carrying a loaded pistol in his vehicle with loaded cartridges beside him and a stash of marijuana? If they left the bar, as Johnson said, long enough to go get something to eat and then they came back to the parked car and waited with blinkers on after the initial altercation, why were they not in Cottondale on the way back to Birmingham at the time of the shooting? In other words, from my questions, you can see that I don’t necessarily believe Johnson.

The only thing I know for sure is that a 23 year old woman is dead And Miles and Davis are in Jail.
