i know alot of opinions vary on this and always will. there will always be players on the borderline. some players come in at the end of the game and make a couple of three and a good dunk (miles) and become a fan favorite. coach oats gets to see these players everyday and see their upside and their weekness. players on the bordreline include miles, gary, ambrose, and rojas. unless you can really improve your team you should keep the ones you got because you know their effort and they know the system. then you have to look at whats available at guys like nimari burnett and how they fit in. coach oats is in good shape and has some big decisions to come every year. roll tide

My problem is when we run off guys after their freshman year to make room for older players, then the guys we run off end up having great college careers. Miles is a highly talented 18 year old with great size and shot. I don't want him going anywhere.

i understand where you are coming from. the hard part is when coaches have to be honest to the player on how much playing time the player is looking at getting, i guess the main thing is to be honest with the player.

Forbes is probably the only guy I would’ve kept but Oats didn’t run him off. He wanted to leave on his own. He’s done great at Tulane

How often has that happened though? Jared butler hot "run off" by the medical staff, not the coaches

I don’t think Oats ran him off but I get the impression Forbes probably wasn’t thrilled about playing time and saw the guys coming in and thought “if I’m not playing now then I’m probably not playing next year.” My point is I want to see those guys re-recruited instead of just letting them go. I can absolutely see Miles and Gary transferring for the same reasons and either would be a big blow to the program.

For sure, not Butler. “Run off” is probably too strong. But i do think we’ve let guys go that we should’ve held on to and developed

I don’t see Miles going anywhere because Oats recruited him. Gary I could see, but he wouldn’t be detrimental. I think Jusuan Holt has more upside and wouldn’t mind swapping the two. I’d prefer to see a senior to be leave like Rojas, but Gary is more likely than Miles. Ambrose isn’t going anywhere either.

I remember when CNS took the red shirt off of so many freshmen I thought "what on earth are you doing?" As it turns out Saban is a pretty good recruiter. I trust Oats is going to do the same and won't waste time convincing Miles (for example) to stay buried on the depth chart when he needs that spot to sure up the lineup. Just sit back and enjoy guys.

Good to hear on Miles and Ambrose. Regarding Gary, he played like 14 minutes against Miss St and had 9 points and 9 rebounds. I get that he’s not really a skilled player, but he makes up for it in other ways. I don’t know how many guys we have who would be able to come close to that stat line in so few minutes.

IMO Miles is a huge piece of the rotation next year and I'd bet he knows it.
