Jake Walters, if you read my updates, came in the game Sunday in a close game and looked shaky early. He allowed the first two batters he faced to reach base and that brought the tying run to the plate. A foul out and a double play changed that quickly and he ended up finishing out the game as we won 5-2.

Why am I telling you this? Some posters, including myself, have campaigned for the young freshman to join the weekend rotation. He has proven thru his mid-week starts that he has the stuff to be a weekend starter, it was just a matter of proving that he could perform in conference play. After two very impressive starts against Samford where he recorded a combined 18 strikeouts, he was given a chance to earn trust in a close conference game and earned it.

I have noticed that he isn't scheduled to start at UAB this Tuesday and have heard that he possibly could start this weekend on the road at Mizzouri. He may or may not start, but I believe there is a good chance with them skipping his typical start on Tuesday. With Gillbeau and Bramblett pitching great baseball, Walters has a chance to solidify the 3rd spot in an already good rotation. Let's hope he starts and goes out and performs like we have seen him and earns that final spot.

Our next game is Tuesday night at 6 pm against UAB. FWIW, UAB won their series against Rice last weekend, who was ranked #12 in the country.
