As we were about to begin our game against Tanner, I was following the score of the Bama game and was surprised with how close it was throughout. I had to put my phone up when our game started with USA winning, and when our game was over (We won and have started the season 4-0!) I noticed Alabama pulled out the victory.

I rewatched the game today to see what went wrong/right and man Alabama played a sloppy offensive game. Now, USA has several big time transfers that Alabama went after out of high school and they can really play. I paid attention to defensively for Alabama and I thought they played well. USA hit some really difficult shots and Alabama forced 18 turnovers so it is hard to be upset at the defense. Alabama committed 20 turnovers on offense and they cannot afford to do that and expect to win. Keon Ellis had another great games on both ends, Noah Gurley I thought started slow but played better the 2nd half, and the typical guys (JQ, Shack) had a real solid game. In basketball you have these type of games, and those games show your maturity. A sloppy game where you don't play your best. A win is a win and I didn't see anything in the game that worried me. JD had an off game, but he is still trying to get up to the speed of the game. When he does..... watch out because you can just see he oozes talent and potential.

Remind me what school your at?

We won but it was touch-and-go for the entire game. The team played better the 2nd half, but you can tell Gary was missed for the energy he brings, and last night the team was lacking energy.

Harp it seems we have run way more half court offense this year so far and we have run through our bigs seemingly more in 3 games than all of last season. Is that a product of JD not pushing the pace enough or is Oats trying to develop another tier to our offense that we didn’t have last year? Seems like we have pulled the ball out on the break a lot this year instead of pushing the pace. I think a lot of that has been JD being a bit tentative

Last year my biggest concern heading into postseason play was that we never had a plan B.. if teams sold out to take away our fast ball we didn’t have a curve ball. Maybe that will be different this year with Bediako and Gurley providing more ability to make things happen themselves.

I think there is something to this idea. Early season games can be a time to experiment with lineups and with different strategies. Would make sense to work on some half court options.

We’ve probably played 2 bigs at the same time more than we did all last season. Maybe we just have better bigs and he’s trying to figure out how to utilize that. This seems to be the best we’ve played on offense to open a season under Oats by a long way. Hopefully, like you said, we are developing a different way to win games on nights where we can get things in transition. I thought they whole game against South they were playing a smaller, more athletic lineup than we were. Just seemed weird for us. Maybe we could have matched up against them better but he just wanted to see certain things? I want to win. But I’ve always tried to putting winning behind developing depth and learning who we were early in the season, which is really hard. I think Oats is really good at that.

I rewatched last night as I was out of town and couldn't watch it all gameday. I felt like the refs called a really tight game on charges. It was ridiculous and not fun to watch. If not for all the charges called, I feel game would not have been close.

That might be my biggest complaint about BB. Things change so much from game to game by how the refs call it. One game they let a team play more, which I prefer, and then the next, they call every little thing and more. It is tough to get to a consistency level when that happens, not knowing how one game will be called vs the next.

+ 1 - I was thinking this why Gary is so important.

This team, imop, will go as far as its shooting takes it. If it shoots well, it has the overall talent to beat anybody.
Well, we will know a lot more on Dec. 4th. BTW did anyone notice the ticket prices for the GONZAGA game. Cheapest ticket-$71, most expensive ticket $806. By comparison the cheapest ticket for the Tennessee game is $11, the most expensive $344.
