Alabama found itself down 7 with 5 minutes left, without head coach Nate Oats, and in a major shooting funk but found a way to win.

Oats had every right to be upset after the 2nd half officiating. It wasn’t necessarily the fouls called, because MSU had more at the time, it was not calling it both ways. Oats has fire and passion man which id take any day over being a statue like the past two coaches. It woke the team up and they went on a tear to end the game.

Jahvon Quinerly broke out in a big way scoring 21 and dishing 8 assists. Miss St is a great matchup for him with so many bigs on the floor for them because they’re not good pick n roll players. He found Bediako multiple times for easy dunks. Miles and JD closed the door late in the game which was nice to see. JD finished with 10 boards. I keep thinking that every game is Bediako’s best game recently, because he’s getting better and better. He had 12p, 5r, and 6blk. Huge rim protector and finisher tonight.

Alabama shot 6/30 from 3, but a lot of them were wide open that Shack typically makes. Shack went 0/6 which was very uncommon for him. Alabama won this game by dominating the boards 40-30 and dominating the paint 44-30. You have to respect our 3 which opens up the lane to drive and we are elite scoring in 2 point range.

I am happy with the win, but our outside shooting leaves A LOT to be desired. Good looks tonight too. Shack took some awful shoots, and Gurley and Ellis couldn’t hit 3’s tonight if they doubled the size of the basket.

Good write up except for dogging the last two coaches. Let Oats own his own mistakes. Getting almost back-to-back technicals in a tight game is not smart bb. He admitted as much in his post-game presser.

I dont think saying the past two coaches were statues relative to their level of enthusiasm and passion is dogging them. Just saying there's a stark difference in them and Oats. That's a great thing to have in basketball. If you've played then you know the players feed off of that level of passion. That's why we came back and won this game.

I don‘t think we shoot well at Coleman. I would like to see our percentages Home and away.

I liked the last 2 coaches as people, but you have to get emotional to inspire the players. Grant rarely did, and Avery was mainly a cheerleader.

Any team that respects our 3 at this point just isn’t game planning for this particular team.

It's another win. We're now in position to comfortably make the tournament if we finish strong. Maybe we even get a really good seed if we somehow flipped our shooting against UK from the 3-30 to something more in line with what we want. If not for last season this season would be looking like our best season in 20+ years. Not bad for a team that too often can't throw it in the ocean while standing on a buoy and at times can't stop anyone.

We played some odd lineups for us. Some really big lineups with one guard and 4 guys that can play 3 or 4 or even 5. I hope we hold on to that if we get a tough draw against a big team in March. If JQ can run and dish like he did some tonight we can actually pivot out of a 3 or nothing offense and do some half court. I thought it helped us when we went to it even though we didn't stay with it long.

I'm not a fan of a coach getting a double tech trip to the showers. Sometimes one tech has merit but you know the leash is too short to get too crazy after that first one. The only way the disqualification might work is if it was calculated and planned on some level.

That being said I might have been arrested for getting after the officials in this game. Most of this game was very much a no blood no foul 90s style of full contact basketball. Our post players probably needed an ice bath after the game. You could say that we needed to adjust and play on but we don't have many players that can hold up in a game like that. We aren't built for it. Oats knows this and had to lose his tempter to make it clear that the road team shouldn't be able to play like it's 1993 when the home team will get punished for it.

I will say even if Oats looks like the biggest whiner in the league its still nice that our head coach will emphatically let the officials know when they're screwing us on calls. Grant lost it once in Nashville and I thought he might kill that official that day but he was a statue in about every other game. CAJ even when he was mad likely wasn't taken seriously. Gottfried no one took seriously. Hobbs was a damp blanket in a suit.

And Oats has a long way to go to beat Wade as biggest whiner.

You also, as a coach, have to keep your wits about you at all times, even when you are attempting to inspire the troops. How Grant and Avery coached has nothing to do with Oats getting back-to-back technicals in a tight game.

True. I don't see anything wrong with pointing out where we came from and where we are. He will learn. The kids like him fighting for them. Wimp went crazy all throughout the games. Pearl stomps around like a 3 year old. I like the passion.

don’t get so offended lol. I wasn’t offending in anyway, you can just see the players play with more energy under Oats than the past two and how Oats is so energetic matters in close games.

I believe the second tech was due to the fact that the refs totally missed a double dribble call. I was fired up about that one too. Also Miss State was doing a lot of reaching in the whole game. Lead to many of our turnovers but every time a Bama player tried to go for a strip the refs blew the whistle. Molinar was doing a lot of pushing off and the refs never called it once. If the they are going to call certain things in the game, they need to call it both ways. It's easy to see when it gets one-sided.

I'm kool. Just like the last two had to take their lumps, so does Oats. I don't think Grant would get excited if he was on the Titantic and all of the lifeboats were gone. I never thought Avery was a good fit for college ball, even though he was a great player himself, he couldn't convey it to the troops.

Whimp I like...Pearl can coach, but his coaching box antics are a lil over the top for me.

It is amazing that being ranked #1 has made Pearl the face of college basketball despite being the low life he was at one time in college basketball and probably his personal life and probably still is. But , have to give credit where it is due the man sure can get talent to come to what used to be a nothing basketball program.

You do have to keep calm.
Wimp talks about almost getting a bunch when he coached. Almost.

I think the other coaches rarely showed any fight.
Are there extremes on this debate ? Yes.

The players said how much they appreciated a coach having their back, so Oats had a good read in what they needed last night .

Harper you’re my boy but…. It ain’t a shooting funk anymore lol.

Agree with everything else
Very true! The words normally make and this team dont go together! All we can hope for is getting lava hot from the 3 point line and FT line during the tournament! Like 45% and 90%🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Up to a 5-seed in the Bracket Matrix. I'll take that all day long compared to most season.

As everyone knows, we're a weird team. Seems like we can't get all the pistons firing at the same time, but if we do, look out. Last night JQ, JD, Miles, and Bediako all with strong games. Love seeing Bediako get a bunch of dunks and patrol the area around the rim (thought it was bizarre to take him out late 2nd half allowing MSU to get easy drives to the hoop to stay in the game). Meanwhile maybe Keon's worst offensive game I can remember. I was perplexed why we gave him minutes later in the 2nd half - it was clear he had no confidence on offense, which is weird. Shack has turned into a hot or not shooter, so it seems. I still think Gurley is our most skilled big, not much of a game last night though. I'd love to see Oats shorten the rotation a bit and see if we can actually have guys fall into a comfort level with their roles on the team. Seems very late in the season to be experimenting with lineups and rotations, but I guess that's where we are. I also was hoping we would see Oats call for some full court press and traps to try to speed up the game vs MSU since we have better and deeper guard play, but that didn't happen. MSU did have a crazy start to the second half going 5 for 5 on treys.

Love seeing JD gaining major confidence going to the hole and distributing or finishing, and he may be our best rebounder. If he had a left hand he'd be unstoppable.

Really tough draw going into Rupp after them coming off a game where they got spanked. Not feeling good about it, but we do have the horses to keep up if we are feeling it. Roll TIde

I too wish we would play more full court press. That annoyed me more than anything when I played. Much tougher to get into a rhythm offensively. Like that fly who keeps buzzing around your head that can’t get.
