Just like Penn St., UCF, and Arizona the past 3 seasons. Now don't get me wrong, I am not a doom and gloomer and I don't think last night is an indicator of how this season will go. But just like in year's past I think tonight's game will be an indication of what this team is. Would hate to conclude this season with 18 wins and have an L from UNLV. At some point you have to win these games.

If we lose to this team we are not winning 18 games

Too many games in basketball for the 3rd game to be a must win, but Bama needs to get better. Right now they aren’t a very good team (neither is UNLV). Watch any of the top teams and the difference is significant, particularly from the bigs.

Not sure Bama has the horses (but may not need them against a very mediocre UNLV)...I was hoping to see a lot more from the new additions. Bama needs the bigs to play with about 1000% more energy and Petty needs to get his head out of his butt. If Petty won’t play better then Bama needs Primo to grow up and take his spot.

These early games mean nothing. For me its all about league play. Oats has said these are to toy with the rotation and I also believe that's what they are for. Especially with new faces

Much better effort tonight. I believe we did a better job with the substitution rhythm. We still have to figure out an offensive plan when teams really defend us at 3 point line or when our 3’s aren’t falling as they did tonight. Interesting matchup tomorrow against Providence.

They matter in finding your lineup for the long run. Unless you're a top 5 team and know. Or they matter for a rare upset
So losses to Penn, Iowa St. and Penn St. didn't matter last year? Because when Lunardi was predicting the field I don't remember him giving Bama a pass on those games because they were searching for their line-up. These games have kept Bama out of the tournament multiple times over the past decade.

Did they matter? Not if we were still unsure of the best rotation for league play. If you have a positive league play record you are most likely making the tournament. And no really it didn't matter at all last year. Thanks covid

The good news is thay are building chemistry each game. We all said before the season this team would take a. Little time to play together

These are the last 3 seasons that Bama had a winning conference record.

2016/17---19-15 record. 10-8 in conference. Lost to Oregon, Texas, Valpo, and Dayton. Made NIT.

2012/13---23-13 record. 12-7 in conference. Lost to Mercer, Cinci, Dayton, VCU and Tulane. Made NIT.

2011/12---21-12 record. 8-7 in conference. Lost to Georgetown, Dayton, and Kansas St. Lost in first round of NCAA tournament to Creighton.

I get what you are saying about finding your top 7-8 guys, but on selection Sunday you can't have multiple losses against poor OOC teams.

CNO shortened the bench and it seemed several guys were able to find their rhythm. Other than a few needless turnovers and Rojas deciding he should lead us in 3PA tonight was a much better effort. Defense and rebounding must improve. Providence's lead guard is named David Duke?? Too funny:) Don't know much about the Friars this year. Traditionally pretty good (God I loved Kris Dunn in college) but barely held off Davidson so a winnable game for sure. These are the games we have to win the majority of the time but we haven't been able to. Games against Power 5 or any major program. Not top 25 teams, just solid, mid-tier teams. If we can't consistently beat mid-tier opposition I guess we'll be right where we should be come March.

The argument above: These games are crucial to RPI and the other factors that determine tournament worthiness. I also agree that CNO is using these games for the reasons the poster stated. He tightened the lineup quite a bit in just game 3. Good sign imo. But to say these OOC games don't matter; well, I just disagree but I do agree if you're strong enough in SEC play you can overcome early losses but I hate that we're always in MUST WIN mode at the end of the year and it doesn't go well.

I agree. Winning these games says so much more about you than just wins and losses. Would have been easy to get killed by Stanford and then mail in this game tonight. Just look at the Bahamas last year. Lost to UNC and then got totally destroyed by Iowa St. Tomorrow's game will tell a story too regardless of the score. Are they content with a lone win tonight or do they want to thrive and close out this tournament as winners?
