UPDATE: Alabama basketball will no longer play Colorado State on Tuesday, Dec. 21 due to COVID-related concerns within the Rams’ program, the university announced Friday night.

Alabama will seek an alternate opponent for the C.M. Newton Classic, which is set for a 6 p.m. CT tip in Legacy Arena at the BJCC in Birmingham, Ala.

Cancellations due to COVID-19 have been on the rise across college basketball, and Alabama could soon be feeling the effects.

Friday, Colorado State’s basketball team announced that due to COVID-19 concerns it would be unavailable to travel for its game against Tulsa scheduled for Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas. Colorado State’s announcement also included that the status of future games, including Tuesday's scheduled game against Alabama, will be determined at a later date. The No. 6-ranked Crimson Tide is scheduled to take on the No. 23-ranked Rams on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT inside Birmingham’s Legacy Arena in the C.M. Newton Classic.

During his Friday press conference, Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats said he did not have any information about the status of Tuesday’s game but stated that he planned to call Colorado State head coach Niko Medved later in the day.

“Obviously if it’s somebody in their program that has it and it’s a bunch of people having to quarantine, that would probably affect the deal,” Oats said. “It’s hard to tell with this. Sometimes it’s them, sometimes it’s the opponent. It’s just hard to tell. I have no other information other than on our end, we want this game played really badly.

Oats said his team has not had a COVID-19 case since the beginning of school while indicating that all his players are eligible for booster shots and that the program was taking several precautions toward the virus.

“On our end, we’ve done everything we possibly can to keep COVID out of our program and done a pretty good job with it,” Oats said. “We just kind of anticipated not having many issues, and now that there are, we probably do need to come up with some plans on different things.

“On this one, I don’t have any contingency plans in my mind. We’re going to hopefully play this game and if we get word otherwise, we’ll have to talk through what we’re going to do.”

Alabama (8-2) is coming off its worst performance of the season as it lost 92-78 at Memphis this past Tuesday. The Tide will host Jacksonville State on (5-5) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CT inside Coleman Coliseum before wrapping up the pre-conference portion of their schedule against Colorado State (10-0) on Tuesday.

“Regardless of what comes after this game tomorrow, this is a huge game based off our performance at Memphis,” Oats said. “We need to get back to who we are. We were really good last year and we were really good here at times last year because of how hard we played, how unselfish we were, how much we played the game the right way. We need to get back to that regardless who the opponent is and who we’ve got coming after them because that’s just who we need to be.

“... And if it’s the last game before conference — I don’t anticipate it being that. I anticipate us play on Tuesday. But if it is, we need to have a great game going into [conference play]. If we play on Tuesday, we need to have a great game going into Tuesday because Colorado State’s really good.”

Exactly how does that keep the virus from entering the program? These guys getting tested weekly or after developing symptoms??
Odds of it entering program at all are monumentally lessened IF everyone has been vaccinated.

Both my wife and I have the virus. Both of us fully vaccinated. With the new variants the vaccine won’t keep you from getting it but it might keep you from dying
Yeah that's why I asked about testing. I have not investigated the numbers but I'd assume a good deal of the NBA and NFL players who tested positive this week are vaccinated and have minimal symptoms.

That is sad. Virus gonna virus. Vaccine has caused variants. Who is close that Tide can play ? Bucky at Samford would probably love to play us. Call Martin Newton . A Tennessee or Florida team ?

It is a choice/ but those making a “ certain” choice is a major reason it is now raising it’s ugly head again.

the variants are coming from the vaccinated people. Mass vaccination=varients. Hence the rearing it's ugly head.

I hope that your cases aren't serious. But I personally don't buy the "clever" spin they are using on us. It is difficult for me to understand how people continue to chose to take this mRNA modifier (aka vaccine) when the data does not support it being effective, nor safe, and "it won’t keep you from getting it but it might keep you from dying" is the best proponents have.

Let me guess- you have not been vaccinated at all, correct? Variants are not originating from vaccinated people. Carry on indeed.

Likewise, we guess that you chose to take the mRNA injection (which does not satisfy the definition of a vaccine). But we should all respect everyone's right to make this choice. But both sides can not be correct. To make the right decision, we must all seek truth with all our might and question the official narrative because truth is being obfuscated in this strange time. (Keep in mind that the CDC's long history of inaccuracy beginnning with DDT!)
Your statement, "variants are not originating from vaccinated people" as fact, indicates that you have not looked at the anatomy the spike protein and its effect our blood and blood vessels..... and its presence in both virus AND mRNA injection. If you had, you would see how this could be possible.
Let's pray that the truth will soon set us free from this division and plandemic.

Tell us you don’t know microbiology or pharmacology without saying you know nothing. I really want to get into the science but I cannot argue against willful disregard of the facts. Suffice it to say, the vaccines are safe and the fact that there are no mass deaths, no horns growing atop peoples head or babies being born by vaccinated women with ambiguous genitalia or a third eye. However, hospital ICUs are full of people vaccinated and non vaccinated. Quite a few more non vaccinated patients are dying or experiencing serious symptoms than those with the vaccine.

No vaccine has ever been developed that prevents an organism from attaching to a host (in this case humans). What the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as other vaccines, is developed to prevent are serious or life-threatening or debilitating illness and death. Microorganisms innately have the ability to modify its ability to escape annihilation.

Fun fact: as microorganisms mutate there comes a point where they are usually not as potent as the native (original) “bug”.

For the record, there is no spinning scientific facts. Reality is nothing more than one’s sincere and honest interpretation of how the facts and truth align with the moment. The conundrum is in defining the truth. Truth represents an honest reasoned and reasonable perception of the facts. Facts are facts; there is no arguing those.

Everyone is entitled to truth that’s rooted in reality. But, no one gets to decide their very own set of facts. Questioning science is necessary and helpful. But, doubt is fueled by fear. Everyone needs to take charge of their self-determination and their bodies. With that being stated, no one’s choices are divorced from the reality of the consequences and repercussions of their choices. The fly in the ointment is whether one’s choices are rooted in selfless sacrifice, selfishness or apathetic indifference/ self-righteousness.

Spot on correct. The spin from the anti vaccine crowd is comical and one of the stupidest crusades I have ever seen.
