This is a big get! Congrats to Cierra and Coach Curry.
Blount rising senior Cierra Johnson, the reigning Class 6A girls basketball Player of the Year in the state, has verbally committed to the University of Alabama.
"I think it will be a good fit for her," Williams said. "Coach (Kristy) Curry has a pretty good program going. They have told Cierra they can build around her with some great players. I think that staff will be able to pull out the best in her on and off the court."
Johnson, a 5-foot-11 point guard, has led Blount to three straight Class 6A state semifinal appearances. She averaged 22 points, seven rebounds and eight assists a game.
"Every time I go up to Tuscaloosa, I love it," Johnson said. "I like the support they give the athletes and the people there. They talked to me some about rebuilding the program and how my game fits into what they are trying to do. I'm really excited about it."
