What are our chances of keeping Oats. Surely we have the money to keep this guy.

coach oats and his family seem to be happy
a raise would be nice
this could go on for a long time
I feel like we won’t pay him as much as the blue bloods.. Duke might grab him; do they have their next coach lined up?
I guess the real question is.. how much is enough to keep him here?
Yes, Duke has one ready.
Bama will pay him too. So will any school that’s serious.
So it comes down to where oats wants to be.
I personally think the biggest threat will be Michigan State when Izzo Retires.
Oats is a forme high school coach in Michigan.
We do and should. He does not have to go to a basketball "blue blood" to build a national title program, as several non "blue bloods" have proven that in recent years. Florida proved not that long ago you can have football and basketball title teams as well.
The one negative offshoot of having a really good program, is that, other programs will want to take your coach. We have seen it for years with CNS in football. I always have said, “if nobody else wants your coach, than why should you want them.” I prefer this way much more than the previous times where our coaches were not in any demand due to lessor results.

He isn’t leaving for money. Bama has plenty of money. They will pay him. He may leave for the NBA. That is the biggest threat. Now, we as fans need to enjoy him and stop worrying about when he is going to leave.

I agree and disagree. Yes enjoy but in the other hand I have seen some schools just walk along dumb and happy. You always have to stay in front of things and on top of things. Be anticipatory and not reactive. Reactive means you have lost and are looking for a new coach

yeah but I know from experience, once you leave the north and come south it is hard to go back. The north sucks.
I keep saying he is not in the top 20 in salary . Make it happen he needs to go from 3.2 million to 5 .2 or so . Pearl is at 4 million and I know he has a final 4 . Alabama needs to make this happen before March.
I was thinking about that last night as well. If we make it to the Elite 8 or the Final 4 this season, college’s are coming after Oats with big money. We better beat them to the bank.
Pay Oats top salary, and consider building a state of the art Coliseum.
Coach Oats likes the Arenas with the players benches on the “End Lines” like Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville.

I agree don't be reactive, but I can tell you, he wants to be able to live his life. He doesn't want to be hounded and not be able to go out to eat. I think that is why he likes being at a football school. I really think he will stay if we pay him and build an arena.
