The commitment
Deonte Brown,
offensive guard from Austin High School in Decatur, Ala., announced via Twitter on Wednesday night his commitment to Alabama. He has been recruited by UA for the last few months. He was offered by Alabama at Junior Day. Alabama defensive backs coach Mel Tucker is in charge of his recruitment.

Brown has been relatively quiet on the recruiting front for the most part. He doesn't post about new offers, and is not active on social media (of course until tonight when he announced his commitment). He also simply called the coaching staff on Wednesday to inform of a decision instead of scheduling a press conference or setting an announcement date.

This has been the case with all three of Alabama's offensive line commitments (Jonah Williams, Chris Owens, Brown). Brown is a big piece to Alabama's class and the coaching staff considers him one of the elite in-state recruits.

The player
Brown recently measured 6-foot-3.5, 345-pounds when he visited Alabama. He is a massive lineman. There have been some gaudy comparisons to the likes of Andre Smith Jr., and D.J. Fluker to former Tide player/transfer Brandon Hill. The size is there. He is road grader. Extremely powerful and quick off the ball. He has a high football IQ and very athletic.

Brown is an explosive player, very strong in the weight room and has great agility. He has worked at left tackle the last two years, and moving to guard for his senior season. He excels as a run blocker, but also does well in pass-pro. He has great footwork.

There are still things he can improve in his game which includes pass blocking and overall technique. He can work on tacking better angles, and continue to develop his overall game. The biggest thing is working on his weight.

Overall, Alabama is getting a great player. He is a physically imposting prospect with strong hands and a powerful lower body. He stays out of the spotlight and doesn't attend camps, but has a lot of talent and considered one of the top players at his position.

The numbers
It's hard to see Alabama taking another offensive guard in this class with two committed (Chris Owens, three-star from Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas, and Brown). The Alabama coaching staff has their own set of rankings, and they consider Owens and Brown high-potential type players. Brown and Owens have been definite takes for UA for a few months.

It was mentioned last week, Brown might feel some pressure to go ahead and commit after Owens committed with likely only one guard spot left in the class. The focus will remain on offensive tackles with UA looking to add two-three more tackles in the 2016 class. Several of the top candidates include- Bryce Mathews, Garrett Bolles (BYU commitment), Donavaughn Campbell (LSU commitment), Robert Kraeling (Duke commitment), Tate Leavitt, Ben Brederson and Gregory Little (Texas A&M commitment).
