this season, our production in the rematch has fallen off dramatically. Tonight's game against the boogs will be the 5th time this season that we have played an opponent for a second time. In the previous 4 occurrences we have gone from averaging 90.3 points per game in the initial matchup to 69.5 in the ensuing meeting. That's a 23% decline, which is almost mind boggling to me. If that trend continues, we should expect to score 72 points tonight. If so, will that be enough to win the game? The boogs are 13th in the SEC in defense, giving up nearly 77 points per game. If there were ever a time to break this trend it would be tonight.

The last few games we have been notoriously slow to start. I want to see the team come out fired up and play hard for 60 minutes! Every game counts; otherwise, why play it?

Teams that don’t play good defense struggle against us.

We struggle defending quick small guards but we make them pay on the other end like we did UGA. I think AU does have more size inside than UGA.

We shot very poorly when we played the boogs in January - 41% overall and 31% from 3. We also had 10 of our shots blocked. Yet we somehow still managed to score 94 points.

Looks like you were pretty spot on here. I would hate to see this trend continue for teams Bama might play a third time in the SEC Tourney.

You do the homework charts. I like that and you nailed it very close.

Great call on this one. Given that Oats is a stats freak I would assume he's more than well aware of this trend.

Great work and insight. You wouldn't happen to have 6 good lottery numbers I could use wouldcha? 👍👍

I didn’t want to be right on this one. It’s a very disturbing trend.

JMO, but not sure there’s anything that could be described as, “very disturbing” about our best basketball season in 19 years.

Have you noticed that teams we play a second time do not do as well offensively against us the second time we play them. I think our coaches make adjustments.

We have played Auburn, Miss Stake, Arkansas, Kentucky and LSU twice. In two of those games we won by more points, One we lost with a 35 point turnaround, and we all have an opinion as to how that happened. Against LSU the basket was as big as the Gulf of Mexico that night when we won in Baton Rouge, and against Kentucky, well they are Kentucky and they still wear that blue jersey and have some pretty good talent that cannot play together.

Miss Stake always worries me because they have a strong inside game and if their bigs take over the game we have no reasonable chance. Miss Stake gave us fits on the second chance put backs.

Our problem has been that we are not hitting 40% of our threes, even if uncontested. If Primo, Shackelford, Petty and JQ are on from three, the other team can hang it up.

Alabama reminds me of the "Nova" team that took us to the cleaners in the NCAA three years ago. We are capable of hitting 50% of our 3's in a game and we are capable of missing 75%. You are not going to win many games where you go 3-18 in a half from 3 range.

You make some valid points. One minor correction, however. Last night's game is the only one which we won by a larger margin in the 2nd matchup than in the 1st. We've also gone over the 70 point mark just once in 2nd meetings this season, while scoring 81 or more in each of the 1st matchups.
