Basketball is more important in Fayetteville. And Tyson, Walmart and JB Hunt are financing NIL for basketball at a very well funded level.
Muss has had some good results but he's also had not great results with extremely talented teams too
That is debatable. The only real prize is the National Championship and neither coach has 1 of those.
I believe that Oats and Musselman arrived at the same time (19-20 season) and in that time there has been 4 regular season SEC championships and Oats has 2 of those and Musselman has 0. There have been 3 SEC Tournaments and Oats has 2 of those while Musselman has 0. So that is 4 SEC championships for Oats and zero for Musselman.
They have 6 head to head matchups and Oats owns a 4-2 advantage in that category.

Now there is no doubt that Musselman has outperformed Oats in the Big Dance in their 4 years in the SEC and I am not running Musselman down because even though a tremendous douche the guy can coach, but the last 4 years it is debatable.

Don't think so sport. Since the 2021-2022 season to date Bama played pigs 5 times. Oats 4 wins and muss 1, with muss having some of the best talent money could buy on his bench. Nice try!!

I got no problem with Muss. He doesn't owe anybody anything other than the players and coaches on his team. Folks should look in the mirror real quick before blasting any other head coaches in this conference after the last 2 months of this season.
Oats swept him this year and is 4-1 against him the last two years. Wanna try again?
And that's a fact. Just like Miami has a billionaire throwing NIL money around in college football, billionaires throw NIL dollars at basketball in Arkansas. Doesn't make Mussleman a better coach, just a coach with a VERY well-funded program.
Very good post. Randy is not wrong that Muss is an excellent coach. l certainly don't think he is a better coach than Coach Oates. We are damn lucky to have Coach Oats and l hope he is at Bama for a long time to come.

Three weeks after Miller news came out, AD gave Oats new deal could have kept him for the same money. No one else at the time would have touch him. Then in my opinion , last two games Oats choked with his rotation. Again in my opinion .I did’t see the ass from Ark do any thing like that.One of the reasons I think he is a better coach!
Oats should have sit Miller down,for sure when had 6 turnovers in last game, Q was bad as well, but Oats still played him instead of subbing in another body!
The NCAA Tournament is certainly very important, but it is also not all that matters. The last 3 seasons under Oates results speak for themselves. Best since Wimp and probably better overall than Wimp, even though he has not had the results long enough to put him above Wimp.
Oates is a damn good basketball coach as you and l and most Bama fans agree on.
But it doesn't define what was a good team or good coach.
If you win it all or go to the Final 4, but nobody gives a shit who went to the Elite 8 or the Sweet 16 5 years down the road.

You know what's funny to me...for years I whined about getting a good coach & one who could develop players mainly because Bama basketball has always got pretty good players..I was not of fan at all of Gottfried(after his first 4 years) and Grant.
I feel Avery served a purpose in getting us where we are today tho...
We were told we could Never get a good coach, that the players we were getting were overrated, can't get real players or fans without a new gym and free hotdogs, and no player would ever choose bama over about 30 other teams.
People were asked what their expectations were and the typical response was be competitive, NCAA tournament 3/5 years, sweet 16 team, etc....
Anywho, Oats comes in and does more than most thought was possible in a short period of time and now fans have become greedy as hell!
Don't get me wrong, I want it all but any negative talk at this point is unbelievable. So I'm not even wasting my time on who's a better a coach and nobody should either. I'm just happy with what we've got!

Many of the same posters that are complaining now are the ones that were raising Hell about the AD being slow to lock him down with a big raise a short while back.
