Our bigs should follow my formula from middle school (when I was still tall enough to play inside).

They get to take a shot for every offensive rebound, steal, or every two blocks they get, with a bonus shot attempt awarded if the last shot was a make.

That would help avoid the “invisible big” syndrome that some of our guys have been afflicted with so far...or worse, the invisible big syndrome everywhere except offense where they happily jack up attempts instead of our better shooters.

Basically, go do something good for winning and then you get to play offense but not the other way around.

***Formula should also apply to most subs off the bench as well

I think we saw this play out somewhat last season as that team tried to adjust to what CNO wanted. Everybody was head strong "go go go" to start the season before finally settling in their roles. In Oat's system I could see how he doesn't want to plant to seeds of hesitation in any of his guy's minds. I think the minutes will eventually flow towards the guys who quickly learns his role and not the guy with the best 3 point percentage. Hopefully the two will be the same but right now Reese and Rojas should be more concerned with penetrating to the goal and kicking out to somebody who isn't struggling. Four assists and 4 rebounds is a lot better than 1 for 4 from three point land.

Rojas only played 9 minutes. Bruner 21 and Reese 14.

Sounds like Anthony Grant was coaching that team! Very tyrannical and limiting! I say take the open J, but within your range.

It really wasn’t. I was the leading scorer on a good team under that system (which was self imposed), and for the rest of my playing career I always knew I could get myself going if things weren’t working by digging in on the other phases. Usually that hard work led to putbacks, steals, free throws, etc that would let me see the ball go through the basket and loosen up.

I also developed a rule of thumb for myself that a “good shot” is one that I would be pissed for missing and want to take again.

Coach Newton had a system that I use in practice by using different colored dots for shooting range in which he place them per player where he wanted them shooting from and slowly expanded as they got better.

Those were the fewest game minutes for Rojas this season, and we played by far our best game. I don't think that's just a coincidence. I really don't think he should get more than 4-5 minutes per half. Ambrose-Hylton took some of those minutes last night and looked good. I think he'll get more minutes as the season goes on.
