Being the 32nd rated team beats the heck out of being the 69th team, and getting boat raced by UConn and Notre Dame is far better than winning the WNIT, and it dang sure beats where we were when we were having to play in Foster and were finishing last in the SEC every year. It is amazing how many people do not appreciate where this program has been the last three years, compared to the 20 years previous to the last three. Some people do not realize just how bad the program was ten years ago when Coach Curry took over. When she took over they would not even let the women into Coleman without a ticket. The program didn't even know how to win a game in conference when she took over and no one in the Athletic Department cared. Before 2017, Alabama played their games in Foster, where they still practice. I would submit that the Alabama women have the worst practice facility in the SEC, as they are not even allowed to practice in the spare gym at Coleman, which means we have the worst home court advantage in the SEC. As some of you might know, Coleman has a terrible lighting backdrop and if you are not use to shooting in Coleman, how do you expect to perform, which just might be why Bama is so good on the road.
There is only one women's basketball program in the SEC treated as poorly as Bama's women, and I don't know if you would really call Memorial Coliseum in Lexington being treated poorly. Since moving games into Coleman, Alabama is 43-50 in conference play. In the Smith-Hudson era, before Curry came to Bama we were 24-103 in conference play.
While Alabama Women's Basketball was being treated as a third rated stepchild, as opposed to being an unwanted orphan, we all know that no good instate recruit would even consider Alabama, because of facilities. Curry at least has a chance now.
Here is what the last ten years have looked like.
