Generally, the teams with the better talent finish at or near the top.

TCU is apparently an exception. They are the team nobody wanted to tangle with at the end of last season.

Excluded from the BCS playoff, they nevertheless finished #1in the Big 12 and #3 in the final BCS poll.

I went back and looked at the Rivals rating of their recruits from 2011 through 2014.

Of the 94 players recruited there were:
  • 5 stars = 0
  • 4 stars = 8
  • 3 stars = 69
  • 2 stars = 15
  • unranked = 2
91.5% of their recruits were ranked 3-star and below.

So, how did they break the mold: better player evaluation, better development, better coaching?
