Each day this week, I'll post some notes that hopefully provides a strong picture of where Alabama is at each position entering summer workouts. These posts will be a mixture of sourced info, opinion, and facts gathered over the course of spring drills.

Let's start with the quarterback position:

*** AJ McCarron entered the spring a respected and demanding leader. Exiting spring, he's still both of those things, but indications from players and elsewhere are that the fifth-year senior's willingness to get after people over mental errors or missed assignments was honed to a finer edge over the last four weeks. McCarron is truly developing into a coach on the field, and by all accounts, it works well with a young offense because McCarron holds himself to the same standard of excellence. Safe to say he's the most vocal leader UA has had at the position in the Saban era.
Behind him, questions remain about who will lead the Alabama offense into the post-McCarron future. Sources indicate the UA coaching staff was thrilled with Blake Sims' spring progress, notwithstanding his lackluster A-Day showing. Sims' ability to move the football from the read-option look has never been in question. More importantly, the staff is said to have increased confidence in Sims' ability to run the pro-style offense. That keeps him in the No.2 quarterback discussion entering the summer.
Alec Morris, as we've indicated in past rounds of tidbits, is the most promising passing talent of the future among the backups.
