The folks that wanted Grant gone wanted to make sure that they didn't have to deal with a multi-game run in the NIT to make the decision harder/look worse.
Not saying that he shouldn't have been fired - but making it to NYC would have made it extremely difficult -- if not impossible -- to fire him.
