Here are some notes Tide Illustrated was able to gather from Alabamaās second spring scrimmage today.
ā Ty Simpson had a good day and was the only quarterback to really push the ball downfield through the air on multiple occasions. He had four throws of 20 or more yards, including touchdowns to Emmanuel Henderson and Kobe Prentice.
The touchdown to Henderson was on a four-verticals route where Simpson hit the receiver up the seam on the left hash. Simpson also hit Kobe Prentice in stride for a long climb route across the field for a touchdown. Prentice also had a big reception on a wheel route for about 20 yards. Simpsonās first big completion of the game came on a 35-yard toss to Cole Adams.
ā Prentice has received plenty of praise from sources as a standout in the receiver room.
ā Milroe also had four series, but they all came with the first unit. One source estimated that he completed 6 of 9 passes, most coming from underneath throws. Milroe faced plenty of pressure and was sacked four times. There wasnāt much he could have done with the sacks as Alabamaās defenders got into the backfield quickly to tag him. Milroe did have a scramble for about 20 yards in the red zone.
Milroe threw a touchdown on a shallow cross to C.J. Dippre, who should have been down for a 5-yard gain but broke about four tackles before running another 15 yards for a touchdown.
ā Caleb Odom made a jump-ball reception for a touchdown on a pass from Dylan Lonergan. Odom got wide open on a pick route, but it took Lonergan a while to find him. That allowed the defender enough time to recover. It didnāt matter as Odom used his athleticism and his 6-foot-5 frame to come down with the catch.
Odom is also creating a bit of buzz. However, the freshman did have a drop on the afternoon and also tripped on a screen that would have gone for a first down.
ā The offense didnāt record a turnover for the second straight scrimmage.
ā Parker Brailsford was once again missing from scrimmage, but Kalen DeBoer said he's " just going through some non-football related things."
āHeās going to be with us," DeBoer said. "Heās working out with our strength staff, and has done a great job there. Heās never done anything wrong, itās nothing like that. Heās working hard, heās going to be ready to go sooner than later. So, just taking it day by day.ā
ā DeBoer also spoke on Jaeden Roberts, who went down with a lower-body injury.
āJaedenās going to be fine,ā DeBoer said. āHe might be down for a little bit here, but heāll be fine. Weāll do some follow-up evaluations. Early reports anyways, it feels like itāll be nothing major.ā
ā Before Roberts' injury, Alabama's first-team offensive line was Elijah Pritchett, Tyler Booker, James Brockermeyer, Roberts, and Wilkin Formby from left to right. The second-team unit consisted of Naquil Betrand, Olaus Alinen, Joseph Ionata, Roq Montgomery and Miles McVay.
ā One source listed defensive tackle Tim Smith and Michigan transfer safety Keon Sabb as standouts on the defensive side of the ball. Sabb recorded a big hit on one of Alabamaās backs as one of his highlights on the afternoon.
