Football 🏈 Everything Nick Saban said after Saturday's win against Mississippi State

Nick Saban addressed the media after Alabama's 30-6 win against Mississippi State. Here are the highlights from his press conference.
— "I was really pleased with the way our guys competed in the game tonight."

— "We've got a lot of guys we need to try and get healthy. I think we'll get some guys back. I think the number one thing we want to build on is the chemistry of how we competed in the game today."

— Saban on Eli Ricks: "I thought he played well. He did a good job. He prepared well all week."

— Saban said he didn't feel like it wasn't necessary to suspend Jermaine Burton. "I don't know how many of y'all have been in that situation. ... He was scared. I was scared." Saban added that Burton is not in an anger management program.

— Saban said Alabama only played with four defensive linemen tonight, playing two consistently, but made the defense "small" which was a reason why they struggled to stop the run. Saban said Dale and Oatis are both "day-to-day."

Football 🏈 Report Card: Grading Alabama's performance against Mississippi State

Here's how Tide Illustrated graded each position group in the Crimson Tide's win against Mississippi State.

Off Week could not have come at a better time.

I think the fans and the team needed a week to let the bumps and bruises heal. I think we all saw Saturday the reason for three bad passes out of the last six that Bryce threw against Tennessee Saturday Night. Bryce did not have his usual crispness on the passes or his touch. The effects of the shoulder injury and the pitch count could be seen. Bryce was on the sideline using the electric stimulation every time he left the field Saturday Night. I was shocked that Coach did not put in Milroe earlier, as Bryce was obviously hurting.

Well at least Bryce gets a week to rest his shoulder and try to get well for LSU. Alabama is having obvious problems with the 3-3-5 Defense and maybe someone can figure that Defense out before LSU, as I am sure we will see the 3-3-5 the rest of the season.

Last weekend I was glad to see that we still have the jet sweep in the play book. I just hate that we had a bad snap on the play, as I think Gibbs is the right player to run the jet sweep. I also would think long and hard about Gibbs running the slant over the middle, as he dropped that pass when it was run for him against State, although that was a wicked hit he took. One thing you can say about Miss State, they will hit you.

Football Recruiting Miss St/Ala Recruit Updates and Reactions

We are set for a busy weekend in Tuscaloosa with a HUGE recruiting weekend, especially for the class of 2024. For tonight's game, we actually have feet on the ground; therefore, we wanted to provide some updates prior to the game.

In attendance again are several members of the 2023 class:

Qua Russaw was just interviewed our own James Bernetto in his on-location report. Russaw continues to maintain that he and Smith are a package deal. Good, that's he back for a visit after starting to hear Florida picking up the pace.

Jalen Hale has returned to Alabama, this time as a committed member of the Crimson Tide. Hale has turned his attention to becoming a quiet recruiter for Alabama, especially in Texas, with names such as Aeryn Hampton, Malik Muhammad, and others.

In attendance Jordan Lockhart from California's St.John Bosco. Lockhart is committed to Ole Miss, but he's had this visit on the books for months, and according to sources close to him, he's still seriously considering Alabama.

Braylon "Stonka" Burnside is an athlete from Mississippi who's had comparisons to AJ Brown but may have his best football ahead of him on the defensive side of the ball.

We will have more updates as we get them, along with reactions from players immediately after the game.
