I had the opportunity to cover the district championship between Melissa HS vs. Lovejoy HS last night; it was a star-studded event; heck, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was in attendance, among others.

Melissa went on to win a nail-bitter in front of about 10+ members of the media. After the contest, no player from Lovejoy could be reached for an interview as the coaches sent the players straight to the locker room. Although, potential Alabama target Payton Pierce was not seen all game, missing due to injury. He's battled injuries all year, but according to him, he's interested in Alabama. It all just comes down to an offer.
After the game, I caught up with Nigel Smith, who spoke about how Alabama is still in the mix and is expected to be in his Top 10 when he announces, recently receiving a visit from Coach Wiggins. However, his focus is completely on the playoffs now, and he may only take a trip to Ohio State later this year.
The most interesting piece of information came from Melissa OL Trevor Goosby. During the game, I received information from a source that Goosby was hearing from a few SEC schools, including Alabama, as of late. Speaking with Goosby after the game, he confirmed that he's hearing from both Florida and Alabama, with Coach Wiggins trying to connect with his last week. This is an exciting twist, with signing day a little over a month away. Keep an eye on Goosby; it could get interesting.
