Alabama Coaching Staff Names Six Players of the Week following Alabama’s Matchup with LSU

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama coaches selected six players of the week following the Crimson Tide’s top-five matchup with then-No. 2/1/2 LSU last Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Najee Harris and DeVonta Smith on offense; Anfernee Jennings, Jared Mayden and Xavier McKinney on defense; and Jaylen Waddle on special teams all earned the recognition for their play against the Tigers.


OFFENSE

Najee Harris

  • A career night for the junior running back as he contributed two total touchdowns and 190 yards from scrimmage
  • Carried 19 times for a career-high 146 yards with one rushing score
  • Added three receptions for 44 yards with a receiving touchdown
DeVonta Smith

  • Totaled 200-plus receiving yards for the second time this season, finishing at 213 yards on seven catches
  • Reached the end zone twice and converted three first downs on the day
  • The junior scored from 64 and 85 yards away and averaged 30.4 yards per reception against the Tigers’ defense
  • With the 200-yard effort, Smith became the first Alabama wideout to total multiple 200-plus yard performances since Amari Cooper in 2014 when Cooper tallied three games over 200 yards

DEFENSE

Anfernee Jennings

  • Spent the night in the Tigers’ backfield, totaling a career-high two sacks (-16 yards) to go with a quarterback pressure
  • The two sacks were part of eight total tackles on the night for the redshirt senior
Jared Mayden

  • Ranked second on the team with 11 total tackles against the Tigers
  • The 11 stops were a new career-high total for the senior, surpassing his previous high of eight which he had earlier this season against Southern Miss
Xavier McKinney

  • Led all defenders with a career-high tying 13 total tackles, including a team-high 2.5 tackles for loss (-13 yards)
  • Added a career-high two sacks (-13 yards), a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry
  • The junior also blocked a PAT attempt by the Tigers

SPECIAL TEAMS

Jaylen Waddle

  • Returned only one punt on the day but made it count as the sophomore went 77 yards for a score, the Crimson Tide’s first points of the afternoon
  • Added three receptions for 22 yards on offense
