For the last 3 years I have been fortunate to be at this camp and have complete full access to the players. I always come back and give the points that caught my eye. So without wasting anymore effort.......
1) I am still amazed every time I walk in that complex at all the luxuries these kids get on a daily basis. I really don't think there is any other university that has the facilities that Bama does. Absolutely beautiful and top notch. The players lounge is a complete game room with leather furniture, food, and fun. I could write all day about what they get in that place.
2) All the coaches were on the fields watching the 7 on 7....after almost every game there was someone getting some pointers on the side. Napier was for sure talking with the WR's. Some kid from Athens stuck out as a real play maker. #19 but don't know his name.
3) I will say that there was a kid with Jones on the back of his helmet (OL/DL)....he is one of the biggest creatures I have ever seen. I say creature in a good way....absolute freak of nature. I think it was Kendall Jones. There is zero doubt in my mind that this kid could literally walk on a NFL team and play now. Fast as you can be through the drills with arms, legs, neck, etc as big as any man you know. Always first in line. Just a complete freak!!!!! I told myself Bama has got to get that kid.....didn't know he was already committed. Just file that name in memory...he will start day 1. Second freak of the day came in as Elliott. I think from the write up it is the kid from Miss. He and Jones were two of the most physically impressive guys I have seen in a while. Not sure how he was only rated a 3*......one of those wrong rated kids we always talk about. And for that matter, I don't know how that Jones kid is not a 5*. If he aint 5* I don't know what one is.
4) Clay Chalkville is completely loaded. Will not be surprised to see them in super 6 this fall. The QB has an absolute cannon for a arm. I mean slings it 100 mph....and every WR caught it. They must be used to it. He lacks the size (height) though....but he is a legit passer....very very good. He will play on the next level. Came home to read he was runner up Mr. Football....I know why. The WR's are insane. Around 6'4ish.....and can fly and catch anything thrown. Didn't take long to figure out who was a recruit...besides the bama assistants following them with cameras...they were way above the talent of everyone else on the field. Best part....not a word said...just did their business and went back to sideline.
5) The dude who I wont name but used to be at Hoover and is now in GA, is the same arrogant...I am better than everyone guy...he used to be. Had some lady following him around...since he has/had two lives I wondered which family he brought with him. Only coach that all day he was all over the field and felt he was entitled to do and go wherever he wanted. That's all the energy I am going to waste on that guy.
6) Kirby is a complete down to earth guy. Guy walked around talking to everyone. Just stood out as a very personable guy who was there to mingle and recruit. Glad he lost the champ game.
7) Talked to Kiffin for a while too. He is a pretty good guy. I know the things he has done before but man when you talk to him, he is just like you and I....loves the game...loves the kids....and is into the moment. I am glad he is at Bama. I did say "you gonna run the ball more this year?"....he said "we always run the ball"....funny moment.
8) So we're going through the complex and I knew from outside to get to the front you could "cut through" so I saw someone and said can you let us through...he replied...yea but don't stop...keep walking straight through...I was like...OK....kinda took back but ok....so the guy opened the door and boom...were in the locker room. Several players in there. Now how in the world can this guy expect us to just walk through without "looking"....but we did....and as we got to the last locker it was Alphonse Taylors....he had a pair of shoes there. I wear an 11 and put his up to mine...mine looked like a little kids shoe. HUGE! So as we walked I took the wrong turn and ended up in the bathroom...I said this is not the right way...so when I turned around a player was there. I asked him to help us to get out....Dominick Jackson....geez the guy is huge. I literally was looking straight up at him. Very very tall. You know .....how does one get lost in a locker room? That should tell you how big and nice that one is.
9) As always the camp was run smoothly and everyone was taken care of as best they could be. Walking around back in the coaches hallways is just a great honor because I know those places on normal days are completely off limits.
10) Last but not least...the locker room in the stadium. Awesome! We were kinda in the way because they were bringing recruits to take pictures and put on the jerseys but we had to dress in there so....that round Alabama Crimson Tide rug is beautiful. No telling how much it cost but the ropes keeping everyone off it was a good sign it was pretty expensive.
Lastly.....I told Bone I would get some video for him since they cant attend but it didn't work out. Just hard to carry a phone around while running. If the good Lord is willing and I get to go back next year I will get some video. Sorry Bone......
