Football 🏈 Alabama to face Michigan in ReliaQuest Bowl

Ooooooh can't wait , the national implication are beyond measure :) I guess we'll see if Deboer has the talent to coach them up . Or will NIL, & just going through the motions take precedent,.. Pride in your school being the Univ of Alabama , playing for teammates, and the guy next to you use to be what made winning football all about . Apparently not anymore . Just saw a great YouTube story on the 1969 Texas team , undersized beating ND in the Cotton Bowl . Every player interviewed was ask, '' what was it that they were able to do to accomplish that perfect season even as tragedy hit the team just days after beating Arkansas'' .'' Play as a team , play for the guy next to you , we loved each other, & we played for each other, I would go to war with every guy on this team '' !! Damn ,.... wish I could hear that today .
Really? Heard any interviews with team members this year? This team talks like that all the time. Talks like Tarzan , plays like Jane.

i have said it before that it is getting harder to watch jr nfl when it used to be college football.

the concept of nil was meant to be an advertising gimmick for participating companies to make money off of a players nil, but as we all know it has become a group of donor's that represent a team and gives money to mom and pop stores to pay players to play for a particular team. the portal is just a way to legally leave and accept pay for play at another school.

Well Sankey invited Texas and Oklahoma into the conference. Alabama should be taking the route of ND. Our brand is as good as ND. We don’t have to stay in this conference mess in which Texas will now control with their money. Rambling yes? But it would shake the college world if Alabama left the SEC.
Your idea may be far-fetched, but I like it. Alabama could be an independent just like ND. That way Byrne could cherrypick our sked.

see if your phone translates english to down south american. as the great intellectual sarah palin once said

Or speak Austrian, as that self-determined intellectual Barack Obama said.

And that’s not made ip crap like you threw out there.

It is far-fetched. It’s just bouncing thoughts on a forum. Someone have the ideal that if Alabama couldn’t recruit top players if they were independent. ND has a 1st round player in the latest mock draft.

Aint NFW that Bama could independently get TV contracts to match the $50M+ we get from SEC.
Notre Dame does, but they have a larger nationwide draw than does Bama (though Bama fans do not think so).
The Markets north of Mason/Dixon line, East & West coasts would not pony up for Bama fb.

JMO…. You are grossly/angrily over-reacting to Bama being left out of ONE CFP, that they were close to being in. I’m pissed too, but I do not believe that Bama could thrive as an Independent.
I don't know JBT, it might not be so far-fetched, especially if Saban was still at the helm. Bama has a strong alumni base and growing. For example: I was attending an academic conference in San Diego, CA in 2015 and I was wearing a windbreaker with the Bama logo at the hotel...and damn if I didn't get multiple ROLL TIDES! Whether they were fellow alums or just fans, we're known from coast to coast. With streaming services like YouTubeTV, Bama fans can watch anywhere there's a high speed internet. Bama's brand is just as well-known as ND. Look at the multitude of anti Bama individuals who are celebrating that we're left out of the CFP.

I guarantee I won’t. I even missed 1/2 the Barn game this year. First time that has happened in almost 1/2 a century. Like I said earlier, I am having a harder time getting excited about watching even the games that matter. Even football recruiting is now more and more meaningless. The new college football landscape has just continually dulled my interest. It makes me sad, because it has been such a big part of my life since I was a little kid, but I can’t help the way I feel, and I don’t think I am alone.
You're not alone. Many feel the same way whether they will admit it or not. This year I didn't bother learning the names of the new guys because they may not be here come September. I can remember in the not too distant past that having 2 losses was unacceptable...now it's the norm. Just look at the won/loss records of the 12 teams who did make the CFP. I spend/lose no oxygen on recruiting because it's more akin to an auction...players goes to the highest bidder.

Well, Saban isn’t still the coach. 😕
I don’t argue that Bama isn’t a great TV draw, I just do not believe TV nets would pony up the amounts they do for ND.

Thanks for that I just wanted to open the conversation about what if Alabama went independent. I’m disappointed in Alabama not being in the playoffs. We fumbled our chances. But I’ve been thinking about the independent ideal for years. I believe Alabama is a brand nation wide. There is probably 2 to 1 fans that would watch hoping to see Alabama lose. I don’t claim to be right on this one. It’s just a discussion.

Signing day use to be a big day for me. I would check in all day to see who signed. This year I didn’t even follow who signed. It doesn’t matter anymore other than you feed them and try to develop them for one year. For instance what will it cost to hang on the Ryne Williams?

Agree… interesting discussion.
It would cost Bama $46M to leave the SEC, so they’d have to make that up independently.

I very strongly believe that Bama is best served to be in the SEC. It is really the Playoff Committee that we have a beef with, isn’t it?

no not really. it's bama that we have a beef with. (at least me) if the tide had shown up in every game than it would be other teams having this problem not bama. milroe shit the bed when we played tenn (which should have been a win). the lack of a defense when we played vandy cost us that one. we won't talk about the 3rd loss.

Thank you. While traveling some in the Northern states the Alabama cap got many conversations. I found that many Northerners would watch any game Alabama was in , hoping to see them lose. As an independent brand with 17 national championships I believe our games would have high ratings.Just look at past viewership ratings when Alabama played a big game. And compare to ND being in a big game. It will happen again this year. ND will receive low ratings compared to other playoff games. Why is this? I think it’s because they have little chance of winning a national championship, and college fans know this. I know this is thinking out side the box, but this is a forum. Where we share ideals.

Just a short time ago, I don't know if more fans tuned in on signing day for the players or the "FAX GIRLS!" I'm pretty sure it's the later. ;)

JBT thank you for jointing this discussion. I’m interested in where you found that it would cost Alabama 46 mill we are still have more bowl games , national championship , playoff games than any other team. We have been the cash cow of the SEC for years. Believe me the SEC doesn’t want to go down this road of losing Alabama. The NCAA doesn’t want it because other power house teams would soon follow. In this time of NIL the university that can capitalize on revenue wins. Alabama is still the biggest brand in college football.

I hear ya. For me , it’s the sloppy play, the senseless penalties. Bama seems to be content to saddle themselves with this…… and it’s been going on for the last 4 years or so. Nowadays If a kick returner makes a play on the kick off , 75 percent of the time it’s called back because of some penalty , that often times is away from the ball. Hard to admire this lack of commitment to discipline. Hard to watch something you don’t admire.
