With 10 days to go on the Portal with the playoff teams still out there, there are presently over 3,850 players in the Portal. There are approximately 20,000 athletes playing at the nearly 300 FCS/FBS programs. There are plenty of factors about this number, some favoring the schools and some favoring the athlete. As we approach 20% of all athletes being in the Portal, someone needs to find out what is going o here.
I hope the answer is not that these young man are being tossed aside when they are no longer of use to the school. Some of the issue is NIL, which the schools have limited power to control; however, NIL is not the total issue. I don't even believe that NIL is a major part of the issue.
