I’ll preface by saying that I have absolutely no idea what is going on in CKD mind or how much money he has at his disposal. For years the agenda of every program has been to sign as great of a class of 18 year olds every season as you possibly can and hope to get production out of them over their 5 years, and in the case of Nick Saban run off anybody that doesn’t produce and replace them with a different 5 star. My question is this: Does that strategy make fiscal sense in today’s football? While Nate Oats attempts to sign top 10 talent every season he has realized that a 24 year old from Pepperdine works just as well and probably goes for pennies on the dollar compared to what a Cooper Flagg goes for. Now if you take the same approach in football that means you believe the older RB from Louisiana provides more value than an 18 year old kid regardless of star ratings. I know that doesn’t shed any light on why this staff is choosing to recruit certain positions heavier than others but when 85% of every recruiting class is going to go into the offseason looking for a raise teams are going to really have to start crunching some numbers regardless of their financial status. Just a thought.
