I have heard many people say over the years they don't want Bama to be #1. They would prefer Bama to not be the one with the target on our back. They want to come in as the under dog.
That is a loser mindset and sets up a person/team to not be able to operate from a position of a winner/being successful. Here is why, because once you reach #1, what becomes your motivation? You have always wanted to be the underdog, so once you're #1, now what? That is the very reason certain teams, au being one of them, will rarely be successful. They can't handle being in a winning position because they brainwash themselves to operate from an under dog position. That goes for individuals too. A "me against the world" mentality can be used "at times" to motivate someone, but it only goes so far.
So Bama has been #1 this year, yet we keep winning. Do you see its possible to be #1 and still stay focused without it going to one's head? Its about focus and mindset. Saban is the best at keeping the team focused on the right things without using 'we must be an under dog to win' view.
