Alabama will know the final destination of most (if not all) of its targets in the 2016 class in less than 24 hours. There is a lot of optimism with the class finishing high in the Rivals.com national team rankings with a shot for No.1 overall yet again. Alabama will need to close probably at least one 'toss-up' recruit for the opportunity to finish with the best class in the country.
So where do things stand right now?
A few recruits are considered high confidence picks heading into tomorrow even though drama is building for some. Alabama remains in great shape for Ben Davis, five-star linebacker from Gordo High School in Ala., and Mack Wilson, five-star linebacker from Carver High School in Montgomery, Ala. Auburn made a late push for Davis, and Wilson really likes Georgia. However, much like Nigel Knott on Monday it's been a long time coming for Davis and Mack to land in Alabama's class. Expect both to announce for Alabama. Davis will announce at 9:10 a.m., and Mack will announce at 1:05 p.m.
Terrell Hall, five-star defensive end from St. John's High School in Washington, D.C., will announce his decision at 1:15 p.m. Alabama has been in great shape for Hall since his official visit to Tuscaloosa. Ole Miss made a very strong push last weekend. Alabama's biggest competition seems to be Maryland as the Terps continue to press hard to keep him home. Alabama remains in good shape as of today.
Mique Juarez, five-star linebacker from North High School in Torrance, Calif., will announce his decision on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. His finalists are Alabama, UCLA, Ole Miss and BYU. Alabama took the lead after his official visit, but word is UCLA has regained the momentum. Not a major shock if he picks Alabama on Wednesday. However, the signs point to UCLA.
Confidence remains high regarding Jared Mayden, four-star cornerback from Sachse High School in Texas, to sign with Alabama. Some reports of Mayden torn between Alabama and Oklahoma. It seems the drama is also trying to build for his announcement, and Oklahoma also remains optimistic. However, unless there is a major change before Wednesday morning all signs remain in Alabama's favor. Hayden's school will have 20+ players sign with the ceremony beginning at 9:05 a.m.
There is optimism on the Alabama and Ole Miss side for Shyheim Carter, four-star cornerback from Kentwood High School in La. It has also made this one tough to predict. Alabama appeared in the lead prior to his official visit to Ole Miss. It's very clos as a toss-up, but still picking Alabama at this time.
Irvin Smith, three-star tight end from Brother Martin High School in New Orleans, La., has been very quiet about his recruitment since his decommitment from Texas A&M. He cancelled an in-home visit with Texas head coach Charlie Strong on Thursday, and word spread Alabama will land his signature. Expect Smith to sign with Alabama on Wednesday.
Scott Lashley, three-star offensive tackle from West Point High School in Miss., cancelled a press conference today with his school dismissing because of the weather. However, a commitment video is expected to release this afternoon. His finalists are Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State. Lashley has been highly coveted by Alabama offensive line coach Mario Cristobal for a long time. Alabama wants Lashley in this class, and he appears destined to announce for the Crimson Tide. Mississippi State has yet to give up on Lashley. The prediction as of today is Alabama.
There is growing concern for Alabama commitment Tyler Simmons, three-star wide receiver from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga. Georgia has become a serious threat to steal Simmons away from the Crimson Tide. Alabama continues to work on Simmons and his family to keep him in this class. He will announce a final decision on Wednesday between 8-9 a.m. This one is very close right now.
So what's really going on with A.J. Brown and Jeffery Simmons
Mixed signals on both of these prospects at the moment. Time will tell what happens with each, but know Alabama continues to battle hard for both. An interesting note- Ole Miss sources believe Brown is favoring Alabama today, and Simmons to Ole Miss. Alabama sources remain less optimistic on Brown, and believe they are still in the running for Simmons.
Are both still in the mix for Alabama? Yes. Will Alabama be shocked if both stay in Mississippi? No.
We are going to let it play out, but Alabama is making a very hard push for both.
Alabama fans don't need to celebrate on rumors of Brown leaning to the Crimson Tide just yet, and don't need to give up hope on Simmons.
What's happening with Pennamon and Jacobs?
D'Vaughn Pennamon, four-star running back from Manvel High School in Texas, was scheduled to announce his final choice on Monday night between Ole Miss, Alabama and Texas A&M. Pennamon opted to wait until this evening (between 6-8 p.m.) to announce his college choice. Ole Miss remains optimistic Pennamon will stick with his commitment, while Texas A&M sources believe he will flip to the Aggies which likely isn't a good sign for Alabama.
Joshua Jacobs, three-star running back from McLain High School in Tulsa, Okla., will announce his decision on Wednesday morning between 8:00-8:30 a.m. Jacobs will choose between Alabama and Missouri. Expect Alabama to give him the go-ahead to commit if Pennamon announces elsewhere as expected.
Still in-play
Jamar King, three--star defensive tackle from Mendocino C.C., in Ukiah, Calif., will announce his decision on Wednesday. Alabama has waited on the decisions of some elite high school defensive line targets. They will likely strike out on the remaining targets, but should end with King in this class.
Mitchell Wasson, kicker from Lassiter High School in Marietta, Ga. (invited walk-on). Wasson will make his college choice tomorrow between Alabama and Georgia. Both have invited him to walk-on. He has been quiet since his visit to Tuscaloosa this weekend. UGA added a commitment from punter Marshall Long this weekend which could have caused some friction.
Aaron Robinson, three-star athlete from Deerfield Beach High School in Fla. (Grayshirt). The Florida commitment took an unofficial visit to Alabama last weekend. Alabama extended a grayshirt, and he won't sign until Wednesday afternoon. Likely waiting to see if a spot becomes available in Alabama's class.
The ones who will likely get away
Derrick Brown, five-star defensive tackle from Lanier High School in Sugar Hill, Ga., is projected to sign with Auburn tomorrow. Though Georgia sources believe they are still in the mix, along with Tennessee. Alabama appears on the outside.
Mecole Hardman, five-star athlete from Elbert County High School in Bowman, Ga., will announce a decision at 7:30 a.m. Hardman said Alabama is his leader. Expect him to announce for Georgia.
Michail Carter, Rivals100 defensive tackle from Jackson High School in Ga., will announce his decision at 8:30 a.m. Carter has trimmed his list to Alabama and Georgia. The vibe is strong for Georgia at this time.
Devin Asiasi, Rivals100 tight end from De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif., has sent some mixed signals. Some believe it's down to USC and UCLA. Others think he is heading to Michigan. Alabama has been in the mix since his official visit to Tuscaloosa last week. It's unlikely at this time for him to sign with Alabama.
Ahmmon Richards, four-star wide receiver from Wellington High School in Fla., is expected to announce for Miami on Wednesday.
Nigel Warrior, Rivals100 safety from Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Ga., will not sign with Alabama as we have said for a while. Tennessee is in good shape.
