When I went to the practice earlier this year, that buzzing was still going on. I‘m just waiting for a mosquito to get zapped.ROFL, those buzzer lights were crazy if you got to the game early enough that basically no one was on the court yet for warmups. And if for whatever reason they went out it was 5+ minutes for them to warm up again. They were swapped out for LEDs years ago weren't they?
Coleman can absolutely be a great environment when there is a big time opponent and the stands are packed. The raw emotion that erupted when Pettway beat the Gators was off the charts. It's still my favorite memory in Coleman and that crowd was wild and rowdy for 40 minutes. Houston last season was supposedly pretty intense as well.
Due to the nature of how horrible the stands are setup it does require a full gym and great opponent but IMO it reinforces my feeling that any new arena needs to be more than some 10k seat tin can with a loud sound system. Bama can fill a 13k seat gym and have an insane environment IF they do it right and stay tf away from anything resembling multipurpose. Basketball only gym or just stay put IMO.
I was at both games you mentioned and yes, it can be. It can just be so much better. I am tired of basketball not being given its fair share. It has been promised and it needs to be fulfilled. As of now, my buddy in athletic dept says the arena is still on. We will see.
