This might be hard to believe for the younger folks, but in the 1960's there were "double headers" played at Legion Field as both Alabama and Auburn played many home games there. The first one that I remember was on September 24th 1966 when Bama beat LaTech 34-0 in the afternoon game and Tennessee beat Auburn 28-0 in the "nightcap"! The next "double header" that I remember was on November 9th 1968, when Bama upset #9 LSU 16-7 in the afternoon game and #18 Auburn upset #5 Tennessee 28-0 in the "nightcap"! I don't remember attending the games in 1966, but we did attend the 1968 games and I still have a program from the Bama-LSU game. What a great way to spend the day as a kid watching two college football games at Legion Field!

In 2005, I decided to create my own double header, so I flew out to LA to watch some games. On September 17th, I went to the Rose Bowl and saw unranked UCLA upset #21 Oklahoma (with RB Adrian Peterson) 41-24 in the afternoon game and then drove to the Coliseum to watch #1 USC destroy Arkansas 70-17 in the "nightcap"! That was the USC team going for the "3-Peat" with Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, etc. that was defeated by Texas in the NC game! To finish the day, I went to Phillippe's restaurant established in 1908 and they boast having the Original " French Dip Sandwich"! It is a great place to eat and is an LA landmark. I think that it is about 1 mile from Dodger stadium. You can't beat college football double headers!

As we enter LSU week, here's hoping that the Bama magic is back and that we defeat the Bayou Bengals in Baton Rouge like we always used to do! Roll Tide!!
