TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — On a day when Alabama officially announced the hiring of two new assistant coaches, head coach Nick Saban might be on the verge of landing another big name to his staff.

Dan Enos is expected to become the associate head coach and quarterbacks coach for Alabama, according to multiple reports Thursday evening. Enos accepted a job on Michigan’s staff earlier this month but is now thought to be heading south next season.

Earlier Thursday, Alabama announced the hirings of Karl Scott and Josh Gattis. Scott will serve as the Crimson Tide’s secondary coach, while Gattis will coach receivers. If Enos is brought in, it would appear to fill Alabama’s coaching staff for the upcoming season.

Alabama has also brought in Pete Golding, who is thought to possibly share defensive coordinator duties with Tosh Lupoi while coaching inside linebackers. The Crimson Tide also hired Jeff Banks as its special teams coordinator.

At Alabama, Enos will likely watch over the quarterbacks alongside Mike Locksley, who was promoted to offensive coordinator last week. Enos and Locksley will be at the forefront of the Crimson Tide’s biggest offseason storyline as they look to determine roles for quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa this spring.

Enos, 49, most recently served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Arkansas from 2015-17. Known as one of the brightest offensive minds in the game, he helped develop two 3,000-yard passers in his first two seasons with the Razorbacks. Brandon Allen passed for 3,440 yards and 30 touchdowns with eight interceptions in 2015 before making way for his brother Austin Allen who passed for 3,430 yards and 25 touchdowns with 15 interceptions in 2016. Enos did not coach a 3,000-yard passer last season, as Austin Allen missed four games with a shoulder injury.

Before his time at Arkansas, Enos served as the head coach at Central Michigan from 2010-14. There he led the Chippewas to a 26-36 record, including bowl appearances in 2012 and 2014. Prior to that, he spent three seasons at Michigan State, serving as the quarterback coach in 2006 before coaching receivers from 2007-09. He has also served as an assistant at Cincinnati (QB, 2004-05), North Dakota State (OC/QB, 2003), Western Michigan (QB, 2000-02), Missouri State (OC/QB 1999), Southern Illinois (QB/WR, 1997-98), Northern Michigan (OC/RB, 1996) and Lakeland (OC/QB/WR, 1994-95.)

Enos also has a tie to Saban. He was a freshman quarterback at Michigan State in 1987, Saban’s final year as the Spartans’ defensive coordinator.
