A domestic violence charge against former University of Alabama player Jonathan Taylor was dropped Tuesday as part of a plea agreement.
Taylor, 21 , pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief in Tuscaloosa Municipal Court at a hearing Tuesday morning. The misdemeanor domestic violence charge was dropped as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
His attorney told reporters that Taylor was happy to put the charges behind him so he can move on with his life.
It’s not the end of legal troubles for the defensive tackle who came to Alabama from the University of Georgia in January. He was dismissed from that program after he was charged with felony domestic violence last summer. Those charges are still pending.
Taylor was arrested on March 28 in Tuscaloosa after his girlfriend told police he had injured her neck and punched a hole in a closet at her off-campus apartment. She recanted her story two days later, prompting investigators to file a charge of false reporting to law enforcement against her. That case is also pending.
The woman, 24, told investigators that she made up the allegations because Taylor cheated on her in December and she suspected him of cheating again, according to court records.
She appeared in court Tuesday, but did not speak to Taylor or reporters.
As part of the plea agreement, Taylor will be required to pay court costs, restitution and take anger management classes.
