Couple of folks on Twitter have told me this was known before, but this ESPN story on Frank Beamer indicates he had the chance to leave Virginia Tech for Alabama in both 2000 and 2002.
That would have been the end of the Dubose and Franchione years, more or less at the peak of Virginia Tech's success. They were 22-2 in 1999 and 2000, then dipped a bit from 2001-03 before getting back to 8 straight years with 10+ wins.
