A blurb on the game from the Action Network
  • It’s a fascinating spot for Alabama at home against LSU. The Tide have lost three straight but receive a chance to get right at home against a Tigers squad they beat three times last year, including a victory in the SEC Championship. I’m sure LSU has had this game circled, so I’m sure you’ll get its best effort, especially after a home loss on Saturday. However, there’s a reason Alabama blew it out twice in the regular season. This is just a very good matchup for Alabama, as LSU will allow plenty of looks from deep (350th), which is where Alabama wants to live (30th). The Tigers also won’t kill a vulnerable Alabama interior defense in the post. It will likely come down to 3P shooting variance for Alabama, and LSU’s defense still has some major negative regression coming in that regard.

If the shots aren't falling (through the hoop) and the forced/unforced TOs continue, then it's another one in the "L" column. This would be a good game to reinvent the wheel (regroup) and get a "W."

Bama needs a W here before the wheels fall off completely. The Auburn loss is legit, but Missouri and Miss State L’s are all on a Bama team that is not playing very good defense, not handling the ball very well and not getting rebounds. If Bama don’t turn it around in this three game part of the schedule, it may get ugly fast after that.

The Missouri loss was inexcusable, but Mississippi State has the edge over us in 3 of the 5 positions, if not 4. Smith is far superior to any player we have at the 5, as is Brooks for them at the 4. Molinar is playing as well as any guard in the SEC, and definitely better than Q or Shack. You may be able to make an argument that Ellis and Jeffries are a draw. It's that close. Shack is slightly better than Moore. I wasn't surprised at all that we lost that game. I was actually surprised that it was only by 2 points.

LSU leads the nation in field goal percentage defense, and is 5th nationally in scoring defense. That's not the type of opponent that a team that can't shoot straight should look forward to facing. We'll have to earn every point against those guys. I think we'll struggle to score 60.

I may be wrong, but there doesn't appear to be any immediate consequences from Oat for poor play. A player can get TO after TO, give up defensive rebounds, allow a dribbler to go the length of the court to the basket unchallenged, and take ill-advised 3s, without consequences. Nor is there a leader on the team that will challenge his teammate when they are screwing the pooch.

I get why LSU would have this game circled but is their anybody from last year's team still around??

We need to stop playing matador defense and start getting some turnovers!

I hope some focus and better fundamental effort of the players to improve will give us a boost going forward but I just do not know how this teams lack of physical play, turnovers and no Defense can be reinvented over night. I think Oats has got to start benching players that do not play to a better standard and let them sit. If it means playing with five or six, so be it. Win or lose I just want to see hard nose play and effort. Heck how do we bench Oats? Ha.

I think the effort is there, I just don't see the aggressiveness that we need on the Defensive side of the floor. If we can't start playing the passing lanes better and have better on the ball defense, we don't really need to dominate on the board. We can counter an over aggressive defense with the screen game and backdoor cuts. I expect that they will pressure the perimeter and force us to finish at the rim and at the FT line.

I think Darius Days may be the only returnee who logged significant minutes last season.
It feels like Days has been there since Dale Brown was coaching them. He has to be a 5th year senior or something.

Not looking forward to this game. We should match up well with them but our trends are all wrong right now and they're going to come in with a serious mad on for this game. If we can't start fast and stay on them this may be an ugly loss. If it is the deflation in the fans will be immeasurable.

Gonna have to turn it around quick. Went from a top seed in the big dance to a potential top seed in the nit

I don’t think there’s a such offense that fixes not being able to make a wide open look… it’s just gotta start falling or we’re going to continue to suck.

Zero contact on that foul at the end. That was a realization that they had only called one foul and will Wade being angry.
It certainly didn’t look like a foul. As to your other point, when is Will Wade ever not angry? He is constantly complaining and has that incessant little smirk on his face.

3’s - 7 hit so far
Rebounds - leading by 1
Free throws - 6-8 and only fouled twice on our end
Turnovers - 1 less than LSU
Guards - Shack and JQ having a game combined 23 points
Leading in steals and assist - not my much but leading

and we are winning by 1. What gives? Got to keep all this up in the 2nd and find a way to stop 13. Need Bediako, Gurley, Miles and Gary to wake up and play.

Absolutely nothing from the bigs. Gotta have Gurley contribute.

The 4 point play at the end kind of killed what was a very solid half.

Yep that’s it. Got to have points from those guys. He even missed his free throws which he normally hits. We talk about guys being hesitant to shoot from the outside, but our bigs are afraid to dunk it or just put it in.

JQ having a great night. Bediako missed an uncontested dunk at 6’10. Like me on my sons nerf hoop. Praying JD can help us. Right now he’s a walking turnover who can’t shoot 3s. So athletic so unpolished at this level.

I’m going to start prayer requesting him coming back another year in Sunday school every Sunday. I know he can be a great player. He just flat out hasn’t figured it out yet. He doesn’t know how to play at this level yet

Yeah our freshmen are struggling tonight. At this point in the season they have to be better. Not saying they can’t have a bad game, but this has been all season. Both so much potential, but just not improving. Little worrisome now.

Shack playing hard too. I think bringing JQ off bench may work for him.
Maybe Bediako can’t dunk. :(
My 8 year old said embarrassing right before I said something more colorful. I told him he nailed it and I will shut up. He needs to not be afraid of getting blocked and go get it.
