TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Now settled in at Alabama, LT Overton wants to add more of a sting to defensive coordinator Kane Wommack’s “Swarm D.”
After transferring in from Texas A&M last season, Overton was the Crimson Tide’s most productive pass-rusher, registering a team-high 39 quarterback pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. That’s nearly double as much as Jihaad Campbell, who finished second on the team with 20.
Campbell is currently projected as a first-round pick in this year’s NFL draft, while Overton decided he needed another year to prove his skills at the college level. The difference between the two was often measured by a fraction of a second.
Despite his ability to get into the opposing backfield, Overton registered just a pair of sacks last season, just missing out on bringing down opposing passers. The former five-star prospect is looking to up those numbers in what he hopes will be a breakout year this fall.
