Nate Oats defends system after cold-shooting night in Sweet 16

Part of that has to be with the player and awareness. I'm willing to bet he doesn't have a "forbidden shot" list. But, JQ and others driving blindly to basket and trying to do too much is not part of the game plan. They have to recognize it. I think we are agreeing with each other, just in looking at it differently.

You are saying the system created the player and is at fault. I'm saying the system is fine, but it's the coaching that created the player not being able to see the opportunity. And maybe a lack of understanding of the system.

The system helped us win 31 games this year. That was most ever in school history. It's fine.
Agreed. The system is fine overall, but shouldn't be set in stone. No coach has a system that allows/tells a player to continuously drive to the basket in hope that the giant Redwood blocking it, will tire and allow you to reach the rim. Were I the coach, no way in hell I allow Q to continuously drive to the rim getting the same results (stuffed). I would have used one of those multiple TOs to let Mr. Q know to either dish it or stop & pop (floater). Should have went ole skool with the George Gervin (Ice Man) finger roll.
