Oats: "We didn't have as many quality wins as we would've liked to have had with the nonconference schedule but I do think it's prepared us [for SEC play]
Oats: "They've got an experienced backcourt we've got to do a better job guarding
Oats: "Ever since the Arizona game our guys have been locked into defense."
Oats said Alabama has improved the most on defense through nonconference play.
Oats said he doesn't believe in the Memorial Gymnasium curse but added that "Vanderbilt's a tough place to play with the background with shooting."
Oats: "This is a high-major team with a good coach and an experienced backcourt."
On Aaron Estrada: "I think he's starting to figure out where to attack, where to get the assists... I think he's figuring a lot of things out." Said Estrada playing his best basketball right now.
Oats: "We can't just have the best offense. You've got to figure out how to win."
Oats: "We have five losses because we don't compete enough at times at times in the game when it's time to win."
Oats on finding a competitive edge: "Some of it can be coached." Used Houston as an example of a team that always stays competitive every season under Kelvin Sampson.
Oats: "We've got a bunch of really nice kids and I've got to do a better job of making them more competitive, tougher, figuring out how to be winners."
