no show jones

Yep/ offense should never be run through him. So limited offensively. Tennessee will let him shoot all day.

He has 17 points and 7 rebounds with just over 10 minutes left in the game. Looks like he showed up to me. We'd be in deep doo-doo without him. I don't want to go there, but Shack and Ellis have combined for 2 points if you're gonna talk about players not showing up.
I honestly wonder sometimes if our fans actually watch the games. Herb played great. There were several times he was fouled going to the rim and it just wasn't called.

It's funny that many of Alabama fans have zero clue about basketball. Even if he had not scored much, his impact on the in other areas are key to Alabama winning. You would think by now some of these guys, especially the ones that post a lot about basketball, would have figured this out by now.

And he made a couple of Magic Johnson-esque passes that led to easy layups. These clowns are gonna wish Herb was still around next year for them to beat up on.

SEC Player of the Year, SEC Defensive Player of the Year, leader of the #6 team. If only your posts on basketball were as good...
You're both right. I wouldn't trade him and he's willed us to wins and his intangibles are other worldly, but he has missed layups and turned it over all year too. I say we live with the mistakes and be thankful for the fruit. Herb is a great player. Maybe not a GREAT offensive guy, but a great basketball player.

gotta love a kid that gives it all. i think he would tell oats he is ok to play if he was in a wheel chair.

he plays to win. great effort and great game today

double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. made several great passes and caused several turn overs. he is a winner with a lot of heart.

love that guy and love this team. roll damn tide

I agree. These seniors are a huge reason why Bama is never out of a game. However, in 2 more years, when all of these guys are truly Oat's players, it will be interesting to see if players like Petty and Jones get offers.

I would love to see some film on all these guys bashing our players on some game film on their high school games if they even played at all.

Shackelford was the no show today. Not his fault the officials were making a statement to start the game but he never recovered from being on the bench most of the first half.

The only problem is I think Herb was exhausted at the end of the game. Tennessee did a poor job of observing body language. Herb only knows one way to play, all out 100% of the time.

@mr4bama and @pwestbro61 yall want to retract your statements? Jumped the gun a little. I know pwest saw a negative thread and could wait to comment lmao jk
Nope- will not. Herb played a really good 2nd half. But first half was just awful. Running the offense through Herb at point guard rarely turns out good. He made some great passes in 2nd half- but not from the point. Too many turnovers and out of control drives

So I guess we should replace Nate Oats since he is the author of this?
Do you honestly think Herb is an effective point guard? I think Oats buys some time by doing this and resting Quinnerly. But the turnovers and non finishes at the rim drive me nuts. Herb played well 2nd half- but not at point.

He doesn’t play point. He brings the ball up sometimes but so do 3-4 other guys. He facilitates really well. Outside of JQ, he’s the only guy who can create for others consistently

Like I said pwest, CNO is the one that orchestrates all that, so you are saying he should not do that correct?
Just think - if CNO didn’t run the offense through Herb so often we might have been able to win the SEC regular season title, be playing for the SEC tournament championship, and be in contention for a #1 seed in the big dance.

It's not about Herb being a point guard. You need two people on the court at the same time that can take care the ball. It's also about having leadership on the court at all times. When you only have two people that can handle the ball well on the team (Shack and Q) you obviously can't have them out there at the same time and Shack tends to get into foul trouble a lot and you need his points. So, in absence of a better answer to our short bench on point guards, Herb Jones is that number 2 guy out there handling the ball. You can complain about it, but it is what it is!

We have to play with the players we have! You can't manufacture players during the season.

Then I guess I just must have imagined the dozen times or so today that Herb was at the top of the key isolated by himself dribbling and trying to create. Point guard!!

Herb is so valuable 2/3 of the time. 1/3 of the time he's a turnover manufacturer or just decides he's mj and needs to take our most important shots. I really do have concerns that he thinks if he drives it then he's due a foul. That's no way to end games. He IS our best passer and needs to spend most of his time with the ball trying to figure out how to get someone else their best shot. If he's got the angle okay, but if not he should give it up. Rtr.

All due respect because much if this is correct, but if JQ didn't show how damn good he was with the basketball today then UT would have beaten us by double digits.

In Oat's system and philosophy you are a basketball player. You are not necessarily at a traditional position. Basketball players do "basketball" things! You dribble, you pass, and you shoot on offense. Sometimes Petty brings the ball up court. It doesn't matter. We may not like that philosophy, but that's what it is and it ain't gonna change as long as he is HC.

Wow! The game is evolving and we even have "Bigs on the perimeter now"! Imagine that!

Guys I feel CONFIDENT CNS will tell Nate he needs to read this forum as it has been the deciding factor in the DECISIONS he has made in the football program ... Nate will learn ...
I know, CNS doesn’t make any decisions without consulting the TOC! 🙃

Herb is a great player that makes really bad plays on offense some of the time.... occasionally in bunches. He’s not a good shooter and struggles to finish, but some of that is bc he is forcing a shot he shouldn’t be taking. Even with the negatives he is a great player that is constantly doing things that help us win. One of the best defensive players I’ve ever seen

He is never a “no show.” It’s a bit ridiculous to not see the value he brings to this team. There’s also no reason to ignore his offensive issues.
