Do you think Nate oats can have the kind of dominate success with the basketball team , that saban has had with the football team? ..... say he wins a natty this year , wouldn’t bigger schools be calling his phone off the hook trying to hire him ? Will he stay? No matter how much success he has ? Would we offer more money ?

Can we get this basketball program to the pinnacle of the sport ? Really be in it every year . I felt myself wanting a win at Kentucky Tuesday night more than I wanted the national championship in football .... sad and unlike me ... football is always my first love .... but basketball is that mistress I just can’t leave alone and get enough of . Hungry for a champ in basketball .
Anyways maybe I went on a bit of a rant . But had to ask some other opinions ... does anyone else feel the way I do ? And how do you feel about what I said about oatmeal ?
rmft!!!!

I think we are a getting ahead of ourselves. 2 months ago we had fans wanting to run him off. I am very confident he will succeed here but will be surprised if we win a National Championship. I hop so but there are a lot of good teams and it takes a lot of luck. I know we have Cindarellas from time to time and perhaps we can wear the glass slipper this year. If the high level recruiting continues and it should we may well start competing for championships. This university could pay CNO as much as any BB school. If his family like Tuscaloosa I think this would be his forever home.

We always want what we don’t have. There are several of us that would trade a national championship for a basketball one. I do think Oats can do it. I think we have the team that can do it, too. You have to have the players that will lay it on the line every night. Herb is one, but the rest are starting to do it, too.

I have said this before. Oats is Byrne’s personal pick. He will not let him go. Alabama has plenty of money and will match any offer. Auburn making a Final Four makes it a must that we do it, too.

This is a year setup for it. The blue bloods haven’t left the gate yet. I think this is the year that anything can happen.

Appears he recruits like Saban and coaches like Saban to some regards. Hard to say if that will equate to one, much less multiple titles because they are so stinking hard to win. One thing that will help Bama keep Oats is that a lot of Blue bloods will always feel pressure to hire from within. The best way to keep him from listening to an Oregon, Stanford, Baylor, Maryland, etc is to make a major financial commitment to him and the Basketball program. Who could fault him for listening to Michigan State, Kentucky, or a Uconn? But if Bama loses him because they slowroll this guy then every fan should abandon this basketball program.

I think we should stop comparing basketball with football. Two different animals and there is a whole lot more parity in Basketball than football. So far, he seems to run a good program and is capable of getting us to a place where we haven’t been in a while. Other than that it’s way too early. We are a strange basketball fan base. We want to win but when we start winning the warning bells go off and we start thinking, “He can find a better job”! Evidently we don’t believe that Alabama is a destination job, but rather a stepping stone! Serious inferiority complex!

Well said! 👍

I have been impressed with Coach Oats since the day he was introduced to the boosters in Tuscaloosa. I think he is in many ways a carbon copy of Coach Saban. 1. He's old school. 2. He comes from a strong family background. Played D3 sports at a small Baptist college. Was happy and successful at the high school level and Buffalo. 2. He's the alpha dog in the locker room and demands discipline, effort, and commitment. 3. He'll sit a star if they don't buy in. 4. His analytical skills are brilliant, heavily relying on statistics. 5. He uses the same approach of improving the team as both people and future professionals, much in the way Coach Saban does. 6. His NBA style of playing fast prepares the players for the NBA, which attracts top talent. I may be wrong, but it seemed like he really appreciated the chance to come to Tuscaloosa. His family loves the climate. He has said facilities aren't going to determine if they win or lose. My feelings are he'll stay with us if the money is right for a long time to establish a legacy.

At the end of the day the court dimensions and baset height are the same all over the country!

I will add that I HATE THE COURT AT VANDY!

I feel like the " I told you so" crowd is in their bunker and waiting to pounce whenever we slip up. The same crowd that was loyal to CMG (despite his stubbornness to change) and his UCLA High Post offense that eventually went the way of the Dodo in the game of the basketball. He's not going to please everyone. Get over it and enjoy the ride!

Great post and the one below it, too. What is common among all of the basketball coaches at Alabama except for CM Newton? They have all been fired. People don't leave this job. That doesn't mean they can't be more successful somewhere else. Grant and to a small degree Gottfried prove that. We have deep pockets and a very passionate fan base. The fans want to win. I am jealous as hell of the Barn having a final four. We will get ours this year.

In fairness, Wimp was not fired due to on court results.

Never understood how Bama under Gottfried descended from elite 8 to average so quickly, when it appeared we had the players.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Gottfried somewhat distracted in his final year or two at the capstone, if you know what I mean???

I think he is doing a great job ... but hell let's get to one Final Four much less win 3 or 4 NC before we start with the can he be as good as CNS.

I hope the administration will get shovels in the dirt with the renovations or a new arena. Covid DID NOT stop the Football renovations ... keep in mind we improved the best facilities in the nation. I suspect the BB renovations will be put on hold because of Covid .... and Oats will leave for a Blue Blood and we will see a new set of renovations. With reduced fan attendance due to the pandemic .. what better time to move games if needed to get the construction done.

Agree wholeheartedly. Basketball is completely different than football (although FB is changing). You can still contend for titles by changing 90% of your roster every year. You cannot build a team with multiple future NBA players like Wooden’s UCLA teams either. It you start 4-5 seniors and 5th year seniors you suck. Oats has a scheme/system that works and that attracts good players.

You are correct, in that you can’t compare BB to football on the college level. I doubt we ever see a CNS results team in college BB, for any team, in our lifetime. The last one to compare to CNS results in college BB was John Wooden.
