With 6 seconds to go in the game and with the LOS at the 2-yard line...the defense sees the offensive alignment and calls a Time Out...during the TO the defensive players are instructed to tackle/hold/impede all eligible receivers on the next play...don't allow them off of the LOS...so they can't cross or reach the endzone...the result would be an incomplete pass and a loss of 3-4 seconds and the ball placed at the one yardline with the holding penalty...then with 2 seconds left the offense would go for the sure Field Goal and overtime.
By not doing the above...you are giving the offense a FREE PLAY to win the game...what the offense ran was an illegal pick play...if the penalty is called you take the Field Goal...if not you have an excellent play to score and win the game.
What happened on the above play...the WR drives into Humphrey and creates a pile...the inside Receiver crosses in front of this pile...Brown attempts to run around the pile...easy TD on an illegal pick...heads they win...tales they tie...Deion Sanders could not have done anything on this play...that's why it is not legal.
