What an exciting game that was. It was a game that Alabama honestly dominated most of. They dominated the boards, the paint, and the perimeter. Chris Youngblood and Mo Dioubate carried early on, then the closer Mark Sears took over late.
I was very impressed with the defensive effort of the Tide. They switched coverages a lot after they got torn apart early on with the high ball screens. They started hard hedging, and switching 1 through 5 which really hurt the Gaels in what they wanted to do. They had to start rejecting the balls screens and that’s when you dominate them.
It helps that St Mary’s could not hit anything, but Alabama forced them to the rim and did a great job of contesting the rim and preventing second chance opportunities. Give Grant, Cliff, and Aiden a lot of credit there.
Alabama has now made the Sweet 16 4 of the last 5 years which is absolutely incredible considering he’s only been here 6 years.
