I need a respite from the controversy surrounding Stanford Football at the moment (yes, we have football, and as odd as it seems, we have a major embarrassment at the moment).

As I've mentioned before, I'm a California guy who married into an Alabama family. Deep, deep ties to the University and my daughter is a freshman. One thing I don't understand, is the incredible support for other SEC schools. No other conference chants for their conference like the SEC does: SEC! SEC! SEC!

Help me understand. My wife is apoplectic that TAMU just lost. She roots for Texas and Oklahoma now, too. None of those schools have a history with the SEC, so why? At least my mother in law has the good sense to be rooting for Creighton tonight.

The Pac-12 is toast and my alma mater is now an ACC school. That said, I've never rooted for U$C or Cal. Can't do it. UCLA sometimes, only because my grad school roommate played for them. The rest, I don't care either way. A year in to the ACC and I'll still never root for Duke nor North Carolina, nor Miami, nor FSU, nor Syracuse (and I lived there for six years)., etc. Not rooting for Texas, TAMU, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, either. Ever.

Anyway, why the incredible loyalty to a conference, rooting for new additions and bitter rivals? I don't understand. Thanks for any insights to a puzzled Bama fan!
