Ok, we've all seen some "negative nancies" that can't accept a loss in basketball. I think we all knew they were there all along and just waiting to come out.
But, let me put it very plainly, YESTERDAY MEANS NOTHING...we may have an ok season if things break the right way and a couple of guys are able to step up and play better than they are, but in the long run it just isn't relevant to CAJ's tenure.
The bottom line is that CAG consistently put together an "ok", but ultimately mediocre roster and we had a mediocre product on the floor for the time he was here. And that about sums up his tenure, he was a mediocre coach, not a total dumpster fire (for that see Auburn during the last few years).
However, this roster lost a ton off of last year's non-NCAA qualifying team and CAG didn't have it replaced when he was dismissed. Then, to make matters worse our leading returning scorer transferred to Memphis, so when CAJ got here he was cobbling together a bad situation. The Kobie Eubanks commitment was basically the last possible bandage and CAJ did great to try and make it work, but when Kobie didn't get eligible it left a giant hole because we basically don't have a single Shooting Guard without a major deficiency (ball handling, size or shooting skills).
Either way we were always going to have a lack of athleticism at SF/PF and our most talented player in that role, Hale, isn't good enough to take the entire team on his back.
And that, IMO, is where we are at the moment. A bunch of guys that want to play well, but are really role players on any good team and no alpha player/group for them to play off of, so they are mostly out of their element and trying to do things that aren't really within their skill sets.
I presume that some of the guys may flourish a bit in that situation (see Levi last year) and get better with the opportunity, but overall it will be a struggle against good teams.
Obviously this is all JMO, but I think that pretty well is what everyone is saying.
On the bright side, what really does matter is that TFerg (presuming he signs), Braxton Key, Nick King and Armond Davis should provide a huge upgrade of talent and depth at the SG/SF positions and may help some at PF with athleticism, if not size. Plus, CAJ is still looking for some help at the 5 spot, which would pretty much complete a miraculous overhaul of the roster in 1 year. And it is that overhaul that will truly define the start of CAJ's tenure.
