I know that one day might not seem like much; however, Tennessee and Auburn looked like tired teams yesterday. Regardless of how strong a team may be, playing three games in three days takes a lot out of a team. Everydays of rest you can give a team means a lot this time of year.
It might not mean a lot to teams on the one or two line; however, it does mean a lot to teams lower down on weekend one. Of course when you get to week two, those five days allow things to equalize.
The prime example of the problem of the tournament timing will be Grant Nelson. If Alabama had played Florida on Friday, there is little doubt Nelson would be a go today. If the NCAA had scheduled us for Thursday, Nelson would have been a no go.
The SEC tourney just might be more physical than the NCAA tourney and we need to take that fact into consideration. I firmly believe that a factor in Alabama’s run last year was losing in the SEC tourneys first round. Alabama came into the tourney rested and ready to go, with a team that was not as good as the one taking the court today.
