2 games in...

We have been out-toughed
Struggles on the glass
Unable to finish at the rim
7 of 29 and 7 of 31 from 3

The pass seems a foreign concept -rarely can I recall 2 passes in a row without some dribbling mixed in

Three pt % concerns me the most. Successfully running this style of offense allows you to be deficient in other areas. However, when you are 7-31 your defense and rebounding have to come through to pick you up. Hard to recruit and sign a lot of great shooters who can also play solid D and rebound.

Reese, Bruner, and Rojas being 3-16 (.167) is not what I had hoped for either.

We are not crisp moving the ball around to create open shots. We shoot a lot of shots, even some of few we made, with defenders right up on us. Heck, I could name anything really. I hear every year we have a good shooting team, and every year I say I have to see it to believe it, while others on here tell me I am a pessimist, etc. I am still waiting.....

I really didn’t expect Bruner or Rojas to help much with their outside shooting, though, if they are going to keep taking those shots, they better get A LOT better. They are our two main post players. Reese, regardless of what others keep saying, is just not a good shooter, and never has been since he got here, so I have no idea why you or anyone else for that matter would be surprised.

Yep...The rest of the team looks about like I expected (not hoped but realistically expected), Q has been a relief and is good enough to mitigate losing Kira, but to be a lot better we either needed our bigs to take a step forward (in skill, athleticism, over all production, etc) and/or for someone to really surprise us with their off-season development and so far it isn’t there.

Right now I’m not sure we have any pros on the team (may Q can get there with a bit more, and seriously who knows about Primo...he looks to have potential but also looks like he should be a senior in HS), and most of the best teams will have 2-3 legit pros.

We have one of the easiest offenses to defend in basketball. All you have to do is score at a decent clip to keep our transition at bay. We have negative half court offense. NEGATIVE.

I don’t recall 1 time we posted someone up tonight. Want to get Petty rolling? Post him up. He is great there.

Bad coaching tonight - I expect more from Oats. No adjustments at half. It’s early but man if we don’t look like they exact same team as last year...

Careless basketball with no leadership on the floor.

I totally agree! I dont see any pure shooters on this team! Im very disappointed in the veterans on this team also! Petty, Reese, and Herb look more lost than the rest of them! All these freshman were hyped up sooo much and yet Standford has the kid that looks like an NBA player!

Not surprised they can't make the shot. Surprised they have 16 attempts.
A very good point. AGAIN, knowing your strengths and weaknesses as a BB player, and playing according to them, separates players who help the team vs hurting the team. Good teams just don’t have talented players, BUT players who understand their roles, and play them accordingly. Big men, who don’t shoot well, not only hurt the team by missing long range jumpers, but, also, by not being under the basket to help rebound. Maybe, one of the reasons, why our rebounding has been so poor. They, also, aren’t giving the opposing team any worries about having to play defense in the paint, which might be why Stanford was able to extend their defense to guard out past the 3 pt line all night. Normally, teams extend their defense that suffocating on the outside because a team shots well from long range, and I think we could all agree that that was not the case this evening.

oats has got to break these players bad habits. jones and shack driving into trouble, team is not hitting the boards on either end. i think we will win tonight and get it going.

Nailed it. As I see it the reason for poor offensive rebounding is we have no presence around the basket because everyone is on the perimeter looking to shoot the three. Right or wrong we are going to live or die by the 3 point shot. If we're cold you are going to see a lot of bad double digit losses like last night.

We definitely are a Live by the Three and die by the three Team. Even in the NBA they see it necessary to get offensive rebounds.

I know it is early in the season but game against Stanford was an Embarrassment.

No post game. Same as last year.

Unfortunately I think that's the nature of Oat's offense. Hard to have a legit post presence when you expect all 5 guys to hit 3 pointers.
True- and when the 3’s are not falling last night happens. It is an easy offense for good coaches to defend and Bama complicates it by playing bad defense. Bad combo.

I'm ok with living and dieing by the 3 put I never remember us being out-rebounded last year like we did last night. And it's not like Stanford is a massive team or anything. Last night was an effort thing. The post players not being under the goal talk is an excuse.

In all honesty I thought we looked better on the defensive glass than we did most of last year, but I only watched thru about 5 minutes or so in the 2nd half. Even last year we weren't a very good offensive rebounding team, and we never will be as long as all 5 of your guys are standing around the perimeter waiting to heave a 3 point shot.

Our rebounding rate last night was 39.7%. Last year, we averaged 49.7% a game.

Last night we also had only a 17.1% offensive rebound rate compared to last year's average of 28.7%.

All about effort.

The post players not being in position is my biggest concern. If we play everyone on the 3 point line and then we don't crash the boards, that is a problem.

I feel like we all have been stuck in Ground Hog day for years...
Totally agree. We have looked disjointed in both games. Is it because we have some guys from before Oats that haven’t bought in? Herb usually turns it on after the season starts. I was hoping for much more leadership wise from Petty. I really didn’t expect Reese to step forward. He has been the mystery man for me. Thought he might develop into that lunchpail guy that wasn’t great at one thing but made up with strong effort, but hasn’t matured as a player as I had hoped. Maybe the lights will turn on tonight. We will see.

Shots will fall not worried at all. Definitely were only "out toughed" as you call it by one of the best teams in America as Stanford is showing at this moment vs unc. Not a problem unless it follows us into league play. One thing we knew is that oats would play around with the rotation until league play. Why? because thats honestly all that matters
