If you break it down as Steele vs. Kirby and Thompson vs. Lupoi, you can't not be excited for this season in terms of LB production. If my memory serves me correctly, Kirby was our ILB coach in 2009 and 2011 where we were dominant inside. I thought Steele did a very good job, but I think you have to give Kirby the edge.
I never liked Thompson based off the talent we have had and the production we got. He didn't develop our olb's well at all. Lupoi was known as a great coach and developer at cal and Washington. Admittedly, I am no insider so maybe there are things behind the scenes that I don't know about, but I can't help but think that the level of play from our lbs will be much improved from last season.
