This offense is on another level. There will not be a deficit that we can not overcome.
The offensive line is showing some signs of cohesiveness and communication. I am glad Brown is back, bet even he showed signs of rust. He also is not game ready from a cardio standpoint. Dickerson plays with a mean streak that others need to adopt.
The defense is struggling badly. The injuries that occurred have affected key positions that would hurt any team. We now are are playing with 5 to 6 freshmen on the field. Lee has got learn to play with confidence and attack the ball carrier. He does not have the speed to make up for hesitation. The defensive line does not get enough push at all to help the linebackers. Our secondary is good but has not been challenged much and shows lapses in concentration at times.
Saban knows he does not need the defense to be all world. I thing average will suffice for this season. The defense needs to be able to set the edge consistently. Keep things the best they can between the tackles. Apply pressure with just a few exotic blitzes to get just 2 or more three and out drives by our opponents. Saban is babying this defense this year and trying to give them positive reinforcement. These young guys know the season is on their back. No reason they can’t get the basics down (wrap up tackles, set the edge, show some confidence that they are familiar with what they are seeing, eye discipline) before we get to November.
