Coach Saban gave Alabama 17 memorable years that people will talk about fifty years from now, when Coach Lanning is the G.O.AT.

Coach Saban has more than earned the right to retire in privacy and head to Lake Burton with Ms. Terry. No one should question his motives or reasons, regardless of the abruptness. It is interesting that this week will be marked by the retirement of three of the greatest coaches of all time. Whether the coach is in Boston, Seattle or Tuscaloosa, thanks for the memories. Football fans will forever be grateful.

It is now time to move on to tomorrow. I support the University of Alabama and Coach Lanning or whomever the AD, President and Board of Trustees hire. That is the way Coach Saban would desire. I remember my Dad’s old Coach and after he retired. Coach Thomas moved on, left town for a piece and let Coach Drew have his day in the sun. There is a new day coming in Tuscaloosa and it is time to move on to the next challenge. I know retiring is a tough decision, one that I am facing everyday. Coach just helped me with my personal decision. The process will continue, whether it be Coach Lanning, Lane, or someone else. There are big shoes to fill and one day we will look back and say they were filled. Some have filled them well and others have not. Remember it took years to fill the shoes of Coach Bryant, Coach Hayes, Coach Royal, Coach Wilkinson and others. Only one school that I can think of ever did it on the first try. Patience is a virtue.
