Does Alabama move into the driver's seat for Danny Lewis?

It's hard for players not to be blown away when they first step foot on the Tide's campus especially when you see the facilities, meet with Coach Saban and tour the University of Alabama campus. Lewis received an offer from Alabama on Wednesday and quickly scheduled an official visit. This was not an offer just to entice Lewis to visit Tuscaloosa. It's a 'committable' offer after Alabama evaluated his senior film and attended his basketball game on Tuesday evening.

Alabama did not expect to lose Jaleel Skinner during the Early Signing Period to Miami. The Tide decided after he flipped to look in the portal and the HS ranks to see if there were any 'Alabama caliber' players available. It has combed the country- could not find any in the portal (to this point), but once the Tide saw Lewis in-person decided to extend him an offer.

The former Cincinnati commitment has received a few big offers in the last month which has included Alabama, Florida, LSU and Nebraska. The Tide's biggest competition is Florida and LSU. He is expected to both before making his decision in February. Alabama will need to make a very strong impression this weekend.

Will Alabama land its first 2023 commitment?

Jahil Hurley was scheduled to announce his decision on Saturday. He decided to post-pone his commitment, but is still visiting the Tide this weekend. Alabama is the favorite for Hurley. I don't think it will come as a major surprise if he decides to go ahead with a 'surprise' commitment after his weekend trip.

Most, if not all, expect Peter Woods to join Alabama's class at some point. He has not indicated any plans to commit soon, but this can easily be the weekend where he decides to go ahead with a decision. Alabama is eager to get its first commitment in 2023 and the expectation for Woods to join the class has been high for a long time.

He will also be around Alabama freshmen Jeremiah Alexander and Tre'Quon Fegans this weekend. The trio helped Thompson win the Class 7A state title last month. There is no doubt Alexander and Fegans will make a big push for Woods to jump on board this weekend.

Hurley and Woods are probably the only two I can see making a decision this weekend from the group listed above.

Alabama to get extended time with some of the state's best

This weekend is a little different than most as coaches will have a chance to spend a little bit more time with recruits with it being a smaller group than a normal Junior Day. Several of the Tide's top in-state targets will visit which is very important in this cycle. This certainly appears as one of the strongest, deepest classes in recent moment in Alabama.

I am very interested to see how things shake out with Qua Russaw and James Smith. Both played together as sophomores at Carver before Smith transferred to IMG Academy for his junior season. He has since returned home and will team up with Russaw yet again. Most see Smith's recruitment as a battle between Alabama and Georgia. Russaw received an offer from Alabama during the fall. He grew up in an Auburn household, but there are a lot of positives in Alabama's favor.

UGA commitment Ryqueze McElderry will return for the first time since committing to the Bulldogs. He grew up an Alabama fan. His family also loves the Crimson Tide. McElderry scheduled his commitment date prior to his offer from Nick Saban. He is definitely one Alabama will try to flip, and likely has a very good chance of doing so before signing day. His former teammate, Antonio Kite, signed with Alabama in December.

This is also a chance for Alabama to make a big impression on Tomarrion Parker. The Central-Phenix City defensive end received an offer from the Tide in October.

Will the Tide extend any new offers?

We have seen Alabama offer several recruits in the last week as coaches have hit the road this month. It's very rare to see the Tide not make any new offers when a slew of recruits come to town. I expect at least one new offer- Jaylen Mbakwe. The sophomore from Clay-Chalkville has reeled in several offers including Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Mississippi State and Tennessee. We should see an offer from Alabama this weekend.

The above list of players likely won't be the only recruits in town. These are only the ones who have confirmed. Alabama will have its first Junior Day next weekend. This is a smaller group, but expect some additional names to pop up in the next 48 hours and potentially a few more offers.
